BorgWarner Q3 earnings call highlights. Posted by Jeff Wilder on Nov 1st, 2026 BorgWarner (NYSE:BWA) reported third-quarter sales of just under $3.5 billion, with adjusted operating margin expanding 20 basis points year over year to 10.9% and adjusted earnings per share rising 12%. The automotive supplier said its performance reflected cost-control efforts amid declining vehicle production and a sales headwind from its Battery Energy Systems business. Light-vehicle eProduct sales increased 33% from a year earlier to $630 million, driven primarily by European demand. President and CEO Joe Fadool said the growth demonstrated that previously awarded electrification business was beginning to contribute to results, particularly as hybrid and electric-vehicle penetration rises in Europe. "Our adjusted operating margin and adjusted earnings per share performance was strong in the quarter," Fadool said, citing margin expansion and earnings growth despite a declining production environment. Third-Quarter results and capital returns. Chief Financial Officer Craig Aaron said foreign exchange provided an $8 million year-over-year sales benefit in the quarter, while the battery business reduced sales by $54 million. The remaining organic sales decline was $58 million, or 1.6%, roughly in line with the decline in BorgWarner's weighted light-vehicle production market. Adjusted operating income was $381 million, compared with $385 million a year earlier. On an organic basis, adjusted operating income declined $6 million on $112 million of lower sales, with cost reductions helping offset volume pressure, Aaron said. Free cash flow totaled $195 million in the quarter. BorgWarner used $175 million for share repurchases and paid $35 million in dividends, returning about $210 million to shareholders. The company said it expects to return more than $700 million to shareholders during 2026, including planned fourth-quarter buybacks. * Third-quarter adjusted operating margin: 10.9%, versus 10.7% a year earlier. * Third-quarter adjusted EPS: Up $0.15, or 12%, year over year. * Third-quarter light-vehicle eProduct sales: $630 million, up 33%. * Third-quarter free cash flow: $195 million. Updated 2026 outlook. BorgWarner narrowed the high end of its full-year revenue outlook, citing a refined view of industry production, while maintaining its adjusted operating-margin forecast and increasing adjusted EPS guidance. The company now expects 2026 sales of $14.0 billion to $14.2 billion, compared with prior guidance of $14.0 billion to $14.3 billion. It expects weighted end markets to decline 1% to 2% for the year, compared with its prior expectation of flat to down 3%. The company maintained its full-year adjusted operating margin outlook of 10.7% to 10.9%. Its organic sales outlook calls for a decline of 4% to 2.5%, including an estimated 170-basis-point headwind from lower battery-business sales related to the lack of North American incentives and weaker European demand. Adjusted EPS guidance was raised to $5.20 to $5.35 per diluted share from $5.05 to $5.30. Aaron said the increase reflected third-quarter and planned fourth-quarter share repurchases, along with a lower expected full-year effective tax rate. The company maintained projected free cash flow of $900 million to $1.1 billion. For the fourth quarter, Aaron said revenue is expected to be about $3.43 billion, down roughly $123 million from the average quarterly sales level in the first nine months, primarily reflecting production conditions. BorgWarner also expects about $10 million of industrial research and development spending in the quarter. Automotive awards and 2027 expectations. BorgWarner announced nine business awards during the quarter across its foundational and eProduct portfolios. The awards included engine control modules for a new internal-combustion pickup-truck platform, turbocharger contracts for gasoline vehicles in South America and Europe, aluminum-wire e-motor technology for a Chinese OEM's hybrid applications, three additional e-motor awards in China, and a next-generation high-voltage inverter award for battery-electric vehicles. Fadool said the aluminum-wire e-motor technology reduces wire weight by more than 60% and wire cost by more than 80% compared with a conventional copper-wire motor while maintaining peak torque and power. Looking toward 2027, Aaron said BorgWarner expects modest growth above the automotive market as recent business awards begin contributing to revenue. The company also expects $300 million of turbine-generator revenue next year. The company expects its PowerDrive Systems business to grow about 20% in 2026 after approximately 30% growth in 2025. Aaron said the company's objective for the business unit remains mid-teens year-over-year conversion on sales growth. Data Center and industrial expansion. BorgWarner highlighted progress in products designed for data center and industrial applications, including turbine generators, battery energy storage systems and microgrid inverters. The company said its partner plans to expand external turbine-generator demonstrations during the fourth quarter because of customer interest. Subsystem UL compliance is largely complete, and system certification is underway. BorgWarner has completed construction of its final assembly plant in North Carolina and expects manufacturing-floor and capital installation in December, followed by production trials by year-end. Fadool said customer discussions with hyperscalers have centered on meeting specifications, manufacturing tolerances, quality, reliability, efficiency and emissions. He said speed to market is important and that BorgWarner's automotive manufacturing experience could enable it to bring products to market in 18 to 24 months, roughly half the time of some industrial competitors. For microgrid inverters, BorgWarner has shipped samples to seven customers and has begun initial quoting with its first major customer. The company expects UL certification in early 2027. It also developed an 800-volt power supply unit for data centers and displayed it at the Data Center World Power Industry event in Dallas. BorgWarner expects to be production-ready for its battery energy-storage offerings in 2027. Fadool said customer validation and UL processes are advancing, with engagement across both NMC and LFP cell applications. While the company said current political conditions may slow the completion of some data-center program agreements in the near term, Fadool said quoting activity remains high and that BorgWarner sees no long-term change in demand for its products. BorgWarner blows past Q3 2026 forecasts: $1.39 vs $1.26 expected. AlphaStreet Newsdesk powered by AlphaStreet Intelligence BWA | EPS $1.39 vs $1.26 est (+10.3%) | Rev $3.49B | Net Income $221.0M FY26 EPS guidance - adjusted $5.20 - $5.35 | Stock $53.91 (-3.6%) Solid beat. BorgWarner Inc. (NYSE: BWA) delivered Q3 2026 adjusted earnings of $1.39 per share, surpassing analysts' $1.26 forecast and representing a beat of 10.3%. The auto parts supplier generated $3.49B in revenue for the quarter, though the top line was down 2.9% from $3.59B in Q3 2025. Bottom-line profit came in at $221.0M as the company navigated a challenging demand environment for automotive components. The stock traded down 3.6% to $53.91, suggesting investors remain focused on the year-over-year revenue decline despite the earnings outperformance. Volume headwinds persist. The company's organic net sales change was -3.1% for the quarter, indicating underlying weakness in core business activities beyond currency or acquisition effects. Turbos & Thermal Technologies led the company's portfolio with $1.37B in revenue, but the segment was down 4.4% year-over-year, reflecting softer demand for powertrain technologies. The revenue decline across the business points to broader industry headwinds affecting automotive production volumes and suppliers' ability to maintain pricing power in a competitive landscape. Quality of beat matters. With revenue declining but earnings surpassing expectations by a double-digit percentage, the beat appears driven more by operational discipline and cost management than by revenue strength. While cost control is valuable in a downturn, sustainable earnings growth typically requires top-line expansion - something BorgWarner has yet to demonstrate in this cycle. The company's ability to deliver $221M in bottom-line profit despite revenue pressures shows management's focus on protecting margins, though this strategy has limits if volumes continue contracting. Full-year outlook. Management guided FY 2026 adjusted EPS to $5.20 to $5.35, providing investors with visibility into expected profitability for the full year. For revenue, management expects $14.00B to $14.20B, suggesting the company anticipates continued pressure on the top line through year-end. The midpoint of the revenue guidance implies modest sequential improvement from Q3's run rate but still reflects a challenging operating environment for automotive suppliers navigating changing powertrain technologies and uneven global demand. Wall Street remains constructive. Analyst sentiment toward BorgWarner reflects cautious optimism, with Wall Street consensus standing at 10 buy ratings, 6 hold ratings, and 0 sell recommendations. The absence of sell-side bears suggests the investment community sees value in the company's market position and operational execution, even as near-term revenue trends remain challenged. The positive tilt in ratings indicates analysts believe BorgWarner can navigate the industry transition while maintaining profitability. What to Watch: The trajectory of organic sales will determine whether BorgWarner can return to growth or faces prolonged margin defense. Monitor whether Q4 shows stabilization in the Turbos & Thermal Technologies segment and whether management adjusts full-year guidance as automotive production trends clarify heading into 2027. BorgWarner lifts adjusted profit target despite sales drag. BorgWarner's quarterly profits rose despite weaker sales, but its revised annual targets show buybacks and taxes helping offset softer production. BorgWarner reported third-quarter net income of $221 million as sales declined, while raising its adjusted earnings forecast and lowering its reported earnings and sales outlooks. BorgWarner Inc. (NYSE: BWA) raised its full-year adjusted earnings forecast despite weaker automotive production and falling battery-system sales, separating its profit outlook from the direction of customer demand. Third-quarter net income increased to $221 million, while revenue slipped to $3.487 billion. The automotive parts maker lowered its annual sales ceiling and its forecast for reported earnings per share. Its higher adjusted earnings target reflects expected effects from share repurchases and a lower annual effective tax rate - not an improvement in its industry production assumptions. BorgWarner shares were down 1.97% on the day as of 13:52:04 GMT on October 29. The earnings results and revised forecasts were reported by Nasdaq Markets. Annual targets point in different directions. BorgWarner now expects fiscal 2026 adjusted earnings of $5.20 to $5.35 per share, compared with its previous range of $5.05 to $5.30. Adjusted earnings exclude certain items included in reported net income. Its reported earnings forecast moved lower, to $4.65 to $4.84 per share from $4.72 to $4.94. That divergence means the improved adjusted target should not be read as an across-the-board increase in expected profitability. The sales outlook also weakened. BorgWarner now projects annual revenue of $14 billion to $14.2 billion, versus an earlier range of $14 billion to $14.3 billion. The lower ceiling reflects reduced industry production expectations and an anticipated sales decline of around $250 million in Battery Energy Systems. The lower ceiling reflects reduced industry production expectations and an anticipated sales decline of around $250 million in Battery Energy Systems. Share repurchases can support earnings per share by reducing the number of shares over which profit is spread, while a lower tax rate can lift after-tax earnings. Neither requires stronger sales, making those supports distinct from a recovery in vehicle production. Quarterly operating profit rose as battery sales fell. For the three months ended September 30, operating income increased to $302 million from $248 million a year earlier, even as net sales fell from $3.591 billion. The stronger operating result shows the quarter's profit improvement extended beyond the per-share earnings measure. Net income rose from $158 million, with reported earnings reaching $1.08 per share compared with $0.73. Excluding items, earnings increased to $1.39 per share from $1.24. Battery Energy Systems remained a particular source of revenue pressure: quarterly sales declined to $78 million from $132 million. BorgWarner identified that weakness, alongside lower market production volumes, as the main reasons for the overall sales decline. The annual outlook preserves the same contrast. BorgWarner's adjusted earnings range sits above fiscal 2025's $4.91 per share, while its entire revenue range is below last year's $14.316 billion. The revised targets therefore point to stronger adjusted per-share earnings without a return to annual sales growth. Key facts. * Third-quarter net income: $221 million, or $1.08 per share * Third-quarter sales: $3.487 billion, versus $3.591 billion a year earlier * 2026 adjusted earnings outlook: $5.20-$5.35 per share, raised from $5.05-$5.30 * BWA share price: $55.50, down 0.77%, in pre-market trading on October 29, 2026
