Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or Structural Engineering or another engineering discipline is required.
  • Five to fifteen years of experience working on natural resource, mining, and process operations projects is required.
  • A broad understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations is required.
  • A valid state driver's license and qualification to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Company's Driving Policy are required.
  • The ability to pass drug and background screening is required.
  • Strong knowledge of the practical application of mechanical, civil, electrical, mining, or process engineering science and technology is required, including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to engineering design and production applications.
  • The ability to identify complex problems, review related information, evaluate options, and implement solutions is required.
  • The ability to use analytical skills, scientific rules, methods, logic, and reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions and approaches is required.
  • Basic computer skills, specifically using Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs are required.
  • Effective oral and technical written communication skills are required to communicate complex information clearly and present information to a group.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, synthesize, review, and document data relating to mechanical design, piping and process design for mining operations in support of the Donlin Gold project.
  • Draft, review, and finalize pre-FEED and FEED design documents for mining facilities, pipelines, and operations infrastructure.
  • Provide field support as needed, including field site supervision.
  • Use knowledge and experience with mining operations to support field efforts and document preparation and review.
  • Support the Program Manager in seeking opportunities to expand and grow the line of business.
  • Conduct design reviews of key engineering documents created by the four prime engineering, procurement, and construction management providers supporting Donlin Gold.
  • Work with technicians and technical staff on data collection, site inspection and investigation, and evaluation of collected data in support of project objectives.
  • Provide scientific and technical guidance, support, coordination, and oversight to project staff preparing written project documentation.
  • Review and document processes necessary to obtain, develop, or update design documents, plans, reports, licenses, and other requirements needed to achieve project objectives.
  • Review and document mechanical technical standards, guidelines, policies, and formal regulations to ensure proposals meet applicable requirements.
  • Prepare charts or graphs from data samples and provide summary information about the environmental relevance of the data.
  • Participate in and lead the creation of an effective team dynamic.
  • Lead project planning and request for proposal responses.
  • Serve as Deputy Program Manager for specific projects and assist with client requests.
  • Lead operations associated with key team deliverables.
  • Lead a proactive safety culture.
  • Manage employee workflow, create team schedules, and delegate tasks.
  • Assess employee work performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensure business goals, deadlines, and performance standards are met.
  • Train and onboard new hires so they understand their roles.
  • Set goals for workers and ensure compliance with company plans and vision.
  • Report performance records and evaluations to Human Resources and senior management.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as directed.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Professional Engineer license in Alaska is preferred; a Professional Engineer license in other states, or the ability to obtain one, is an advantage.
  • A 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations certificate is preferred.
  • Familiarity with federal and state regulations relating to stormwater, wastewater, air quality and emissions, oil storage, and waste in Professional Engineer-licensed states is preferred.
  • Familiarity with federal and state regulations relating to environmental restoration projects in the same states is an advantage.
  • Experience with federal government projects is highly desired.
  • Experience with ArcGIS is preferred.
  • Experience with Health and Safety functions is an advantage.
