  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • At least one year of relevant experience in mental health or medical insurance billing and/or collections is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with third-party payer guidelines, reimbursement, follow-up, and collections.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of claims review and analysis; ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding; and medical terminology.
  • Effective communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify improvement opportunities, and implement change.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, OneNote, and Oracle Health Patient Accounting systems.
  • Ability to work quickly and effectively in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment while adhering to deadlines.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of twenty pounds and perform the physical duties of the role, as verified by a post-employment physical examination.
  • Ability to read and communicate through written, verbal, and auditory skills and abilities.
  • Numerical ability to maintain records and operate a computer.
  • Ability to apply logical thinking and discretion when initiating and implementing policies, procedures, and standards.
Responsibilities
  • Examine denied and underpaid claims to determine the reasons for discrepancies.
  • Communicate directly with payers to follow up on outstanding claims, resolve payment variances, and achieve timely reimbursement.
  • Work with management to identify, trend, and address root causes of denials, and help identify strategies for reducing accounts receivable.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of federal and state regulations, payer requirements, and explanations of benefits to identify and report billing compliance issues and payer discrepancies.
  • Handle communications, including telephone and email, from payers and departments within the business office.
  • Participate in ongoing continuous quality improvement efforts, establish goals with supervisors, and track progress.
  • Make recommendations and communicate trends and issues to management.
  • Understand and maintain compliance with HIPAA guidelines when handling patient information.
  • Maintain department policies and procedures, including requirements and guidelines from external agencies such as The Joint Commission and the State of Wisconsin.
  • Maintain or communicate function backlog to the appropriate party at a set time.
  • Educate new staff regarding applicable regulations or functional requirements, as directed.
  • Support and train student interns in the department, as directed.
  • Participate in hospital committees, performance improvement team meetings, and team projects, as directed.
  • Use organizational practices to respond to inquiries and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Attempt to resolve issues with peers in a calm, solution-focused manner and communicate concerns with proposed solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance to departments within Rogers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
