Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required; a relevant combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • At least two years of general office experience, including customer service experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
  • Basic knowledge of computers, spreadsheet software, data entry, and word processing software.
  • Knowledge of multifunctional telephone systems.
  • Ability to independently solve issues, prioritize work to meet deadlines, proofread correspondence, verify data accuracy, multitask while handling telephone calls and data entry, work effectively with various business units, and work varied hours, days, or shifts.
  • Ability to train and coach others in the core responsibilities.
Responsibilities
  • Identify jurisdiction, date of injury, and special or additional handling items; research and re-index non-new claim submissions to route them appropriately.
  • Receive incoming general new claims calls for all entities and provide backup for automatic call distribution calls if the telephone system shuts down.
  • Make changes, corrections, and updates to newly created or existing claims and submissions, and guide end users on process techniques in various applications.
  • Serve as a resource for intake-related issues, determine jurisdiction, assist with clearing policy issues, and find coverage or other information.
  • Process Workers’ Compensation claims from Open Pool queues or by telephone; code body part, diagnosis, and cause of injury; enter submitted data into the claims system; review claims for accuracy; and complete state-specific claim setup tasks.
  • Confirm policy coverage for the date of injury, business location, and injury location, and request policy updates for locations as needed.
  • Maintain department procedures, working instructions, and job aids, and participate in creating or changing workflows.
  • Research multiple state and internal systems and documents, and document and route or index incoming mail from the unidentified mail queue.
  • Forward unidentified mail to the sender using appropriate form letters.
  • Route documents to the medical bill review vendor.
Desired Qualifications
  • Insurance Institute of America coursework or other insurance-related coursework.
  • Knowledge of Workers’ Compensation or insurance.
  • Basic knowledge of spreadsheet software.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of claims reporting processes for multiple states.
  • Experience using a document management system with workflows.
  • Experience providing customer service over the phone.
  • Excellent telephone etiquette.
