  • Applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.
  • Family physicians must be eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
  • Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification is required.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification is required.
  • Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient certification is required.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification is required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification is required.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure the delivery of comprehensive primary health care services to patients of all ages and stages of health or illness.
  • Be accountable for appropriate workload and practice.
  • Maintain continuity of patient care with health care providers within the practice and/or community.
  • Provide care and coordinate community-based, secondary, and tertiary-level health care.
  • Build the practice to capacity within the first two years.
  • Operate within the bylaws, rules, and regulations of the Nova Scotia Health Authority.
  • Work toward same-day or next-day access for the practice population.
  • Collaborate with other practice team members to best suit the community’s health needs.
  • Work with other providers to provide after-hours access and emergency coverage when required.
  • Participate in quality-improvement and evaluation activities.
  • Use an electronic medical record and record all relevant patient details in a provincially approved electronic medical record accessible to collaborating team members.
Desired Qualifications
  • College of Family Physicians of Canada emergency-room certification is considered an asset.
