  • A college or university degree in a related field is required.
  • Knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline are required.
Responsibilities
  • Guide and support faculty as they recruit, hire, and onboard research staff, including executing recruiting information sessions, Workday time-management processes, ongoing performance-engagement support, and programming.
  • Work closely with faculty managing research staff to ensure they manage staff effectively and that research needs are met.
  • Maintain existing content and create new content for Chicago Booth research staff websites.
  • Design and execute programming for research staff, including faculty presentations, research staff workshops, orientation week sessions on research operations, mentorship programs, and professional development programming.
  • Provide faculty with SSRN administrative support.
  • Design and execute retention and engagement programming for Expanding Discovery in Economics+ alumni, including matching alumni to academic advising and research opportunities.
  • Integrate program alumni into new iterations of Expanding Discovery in Economics+.
  • Assist in identifying, inviting, and securing instructors and speakers for Expanding Discovery in Economics+.
  • Assist with the program’s overall execution, including during its in-person weeks.
  • Support five faculty, with the faculty load potentially temporarily increased for coverage during staff transitions.
  • Create and prepare course materials and websites; oversee and manage teaching assistants on behalf of faculty in accordance with faculty requirements.
  • Respond to students on course-related concerns and questions.
  • Enter grades with delegated authority from faculty members while ensuring FERPA privacy guidelines are met.
  • Provide technical and administrative support for faculty research, including data ingestion and cleaning, manuscript editing, submitting papers to journals, research-assistant time management, grant management, and literature reviews.
  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the faculty group, primarily financial and support services management.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant Booth, University, and other policies and guidelines.
  • Oversee day-to-day financial processes, payment of invoices, and processing of reimbursements.
  • Develop financial reporting for grants when needed.
  • Create, edit, and maintain class web pages and faculty personal web pages.
  • Develop and execute the organization’s operational and overall strategic plan using best practices.
  • Develop and implement relevant policies and procedures and ensure compliance.
  • Plan, develop, analyze, and manage the budget, including developing multi-year budget forecasts.
  • Oversee the preparation and management of grant and contract proposals when needed, ensuring compliance with University, federal, and private foundation guidelines and regulations.
  • Develop financial reports and assist with seeking funding for grants.
  • Perform other related work as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience in higher education or nonprofit setting.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and quickly learn University-based systems.
  • Understanding of academia and higher education in research and teaching environment.
  • Understanding of student academic needs.
  • Introductory experience with financial budgeting and management.
  • Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills, as well as organizational skills.
  • Work independently with little supervision; possess a self-motivated disposition; identify opportunities for improvement and recommend effective changes, all while achieving key objectives resulting in desired outcomes.
  • Excellent management, analytical, and administrative skills.
  • Handle multiple detailed tasks/projects simultaneously and meet strict deadlines with frequent interruptions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and diplomatically with colleagues, as well as with students, faculty, and corporate contacts in a multitude of communication methods, including in person, email, and phone.
  • Professional demeanor, including tact, discretion, and a customer service-oriented approach.
