About the job

Requirements
  • A Master's or PhD in Geospatial Science, Data Science, Atmospheric Science, Environmental Science, or a related field is required.
  • At least 5 years of experience with geospatial data in a research or applied setting, outside of academic training, is required.
  • Prior experience in insurance, energy, government, defense, or climate technology is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead a technical capability, including managing or mentoring at least one direct report, is required.
  • Fluency in Python and experience building production-grade geospatial models using GeoPandas, Rasterio, GDAL, xarray, and Shapely are required.
  • Fluency in geospatial data formats including GeoTIFF, COG, GeoParquet, and NetCDF, and experience working with large-scale raster, vector, and time-series datasets in cloud environments are required.
  • Experience engineering and structuring geospatial data for machine learning and artificial intelligence models is required.
  • Experience shaping a scientific or technical framework is required.
  • Ability to establish reproducible, cross-validated, defensible geospatial model validation methods is required.
  • Ability to translate geospatial and scientific findings for customer, executive, and business audiences is required.
Responsibilities
  • Own Neural Earth's geospatial data science function and define the technical strategy for ingesting, structuring, and pipelining multi-hazard geospatial data.
  • Design and deploy Python-based geospatial models that quantify environmental and physical hazards for business decisions.
  • Architect geospatial data pipelines, systems, infrastructure, and scientific frameworks to transform raw hazard data into indexed intelligence products.
  • Structure and prepare data for models built by machine learning and artificial intelligence teams, and own the production pipelines that maintain reliable data flow.
  • Translate multi-hazard scientific findings into business-ready products for insurance underwriters, government operators, and enterprise decision-makers.
  • Serve as an internal and external subject matter expert on geospatial data science, leading customer calls, proposals, and strategy discussions.
  • Manage and develop a direct report.
  • Establish rigorous validation standards for geospatial models so methods are reproducible, cross-validated, and defensible across industries and geographies.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience mentoring or managing at least one direct report, or informally leading technical work, and developing talent.
  • Ability to apply and extend existing research rather than focus primarily on original research.
  • Ability to identify connections among interacting hazards and downstream risks.

What believers are saying

  • Neural Earth closed over $9M seed on February 24, 2026, financing expansion.
  • Prometheus launched June 9, 2026, and is already available to enterprise customers.
  • Partnerships with Roosevelt Road Specialty and Orion180 validate paid demand in insurance.

What critics are saying

  • Porter-style competitors like Nearmap, Moody's, and CoreLogic can bundle similar data faster.
  • One weak renewal from Roosevelt Road Specialty or Orion180 would expose customer concentration.
  • If Prometheus misses catastrophe losses, insurers will revert to legacy vendors by 2027.

What makes Neural Earth unique

  • Prometheus unifies satellite, sensor, and parcel data into one risk workflow.
  • GAIA gives underwriters parcel-level answers without technical analysts.
  • Neural Earth targets P&C insurance and real estate with climate-risk intelligence.

Neural Earth launches Prometheus platform to transform property risk decisions for P&C insurance and real estate

Neural Earth has launched Prometheus, a decision intelligence platform designed to help property and casualty insurers and real estate investors assess physical risk in real time. The Miami-based company aims to replace legacy risk workflows that rely on spreadsheets and siloed systems. The platform unifies satellite, aerial, sensor and infrastructure data to provide actionable insights for property-level and portfolio-wide risk assessment. Its proprietary assistant, GAIA, enables non-technical users to analyse complex physical and financial asset data. With insured losses from natural catastrophes now exceeding $100 billion annually in the US, Prometheus addresses the growing challenge of climate risk and capital market exposure. The platform enables underwriting insights at parcel precision and real-time portfolio concentration monitoring, shifting organisations from reactive to proactive risk management.

Neural Earth raises $9.3M oversubscribed seed to scale AI risk intelligence for insurers

Neural Earth has closed a $9.3 million seed round, three times oversubscribed, to scale its AI-powered geospatial risk intelligence platform for property and casualty insurance and real estate. The funding will support hiring, customer expansion and enable the company to begin Series A discussions. The Miami-based startup's platform unifies planetary data through AI and proprietary analytics to help insurers, reinsurers and institutional real estate firms assess climate-driven risks including flood, wind and wildfire. The system combines satellite imagery, environmental sensors and business data to deliver portfolio-level exposure analysis. Strategic investors include executives from insurance carriers, real estate investment firms and technology companies. Neural Earth will use the funding to expand its go-to-market efforts, accelerate product development and scale operations across data science and customer success teams.
