Requirements
  • Certified Medical Assistant certification from AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA, or ARMA is required before beginning the position.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Level I requires no experience; Level II requires at least 1 year of clinical Medical Assistant experience; Level III requires at least 3 years of clinical Medical Assistant experience. One year of experience is provided for an Associate degree in Medical Assisting.
  • Ability to lift heavy items and assist with transporting patients in stretchers or wheelchairs.
  • Knowledge of sterile techniques and procedures relevant to the work performed.
  • Familiarity with routine and special patient-treatment procedures.
  • Understanding of sanitation, personal hygiene, and basic health and safety practices for clinic environments.
  • Knowledge of infection-control procedures and safety measures, including age-specific competency.
  • Ability to perform registration, scheduling, charge posting, and order entry.
  • Ability to document and communicate information clearly and build effective relationships with patients and staff.
  • Ability to seek resources independently and work collaboratively with others.
Responsibilities
  • Collect medical histories and monitor vital signs.
  • Explain treatments to patients and prepare them for examinations and procedures.
  • Assist medical staff with patient care.
  • Gather and prepare laboratory samples and conduct basic laboratory tests.
  • Perform electrocardiograms, remove sutures and staples, change dressings, educate patients and families about care, and document in medical records.
  • Dispose of contaminated supplies, process instruments, and clean medical equipment.
  • Call in prescriptions, prepare and administer medications as instructed by the doctor, and handle prescription refills.
  • Perform other clinical tasks assigned by the doctor.
  • Greet patients, answer calls, schedule appointments including arrival in Maestro Care, check out patients, and handle referral scheduling.
  • Coordinate hospital admissions and laboratory services and update medical records.
  • Complete forms, receive copayments, collect balances, handle correspondence, and order supplies.
  • Assist with clinic activities such as Joint Commission or fall-prevention efforts and participate in clinic committees.
Desired Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program is strongly preferred for Level I.
  • Graduation from a CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited Medical Assistant program is strongly preferred for Levels II and III.
  • Typing skills and knowledge of medical terminology are preferred for Levels II and III.
