Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree; combined experience and education may substitute for the minimum education requirement.
  • 0–6 months of experience.
  • Financial analysis and evaluation experience or expertise.
  • Knowledge of financial aid policies, state and federal financial aid regulations, and university policies and procedures.
  • Ability to understand FAFSA, CSS Profile, federal income tax returns, W-2s, and USC forms.
  • Ability to use the Student Information System to identify loan programs.
  • Ability to research federal regulations using the Federal Student Aid Handbook, Dear Colleague Letters, and National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators resources.
Responsibilities
  • Determine when documents were submitted to the Financial Aid Office and understand how documents are received and processed.
  • Conduct need assessments and need analysis to determine student financial aid packaging options based on individual circumstances.
  • Review student applications for consistency and completeness, verify student and family information, and certify applications.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough file documentation.
  • Provide counseling and assistance regarding financial aid packaging.
  • Interpret financial aid policies and assist with problem-solving.
  • Maintain current knowledge of financial aid packages, state and federal regulations, and university policies and procedures.
  • Process Tier 1 and Tier 2 files.
  • Review special-circumstances information submitted by families.
  • Process Tier 1 budget, late, housing, and computer appeals.
  • Analyze a student's cost of attendance and budget.
  • Differentiate among types of aid used to create a financial aid package.
  • Add awards to a student's package as directed by a manager.
  • Identify loan programs in the Student Information System.
  • Originate Stafford and PLUS loans.
  • Troubleshoot issues involving disbursement of loan funds.
  • Assist with satisfactory academic progress or return of Title IV calculations as directed by a manager.
  • Participate in phone contact shifts.
  • Attend Financial Aid Office events on and off campus as needed.
  • Identify student and program eligibility issues.
  • Assist with audits and self-assessments as needed.
  • Draft policies and procedures for the Knowledgebase.
