Job Description
The Director, Global Environmental Programs will provide leadership and strategic direction to drive environmental excellence across Fortune Brands Innovations. Responsibilities include defining environmental requirements across operations, products, and geographic regions, developing a multi-year environmental and operational sustainability roadmap, and leading the team to develop and implement systems to drive programs, execution, and improvements across the Company. This position will engage with internal and external leaders and stakeholders.
Position location/hybrid/remote – This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule based in North Olmsted (OH), Maumee (OH), Deerfield (IL) or Oak Creek (WI).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Build a future state vision for environmental excellence and develop a clear, multi-phased approach to execution.
- Lead development and implementation of environmental policies, procedures, and programs in support of overall Company EHSS operating system and ESG goals.
- Develop and organize a team of Corporate and operational resources to execute environmental and operational sustainability strategy.
- Serve all operations and businesses as subject matter expert for Fortune Brands Innovations in the area of environmental compliance, risk and impact reduction, and strategy.
- Develop and manage assessment process for critical environmental areas and drive sustainable improvement across the Company; develop and lead permit review, environmental incident investigation, and change management processes.
- Use deep domain expertise to identify, develop and lead environmental improvement initiatives across the global organization that reduce compliance risk and improve environmental impact of operations; lead project and cross-functional teams to drive success of environmental and sustainability initiatives.
- Lead engagement with applicable regulatory authorities and internal stakeholders when required; represent FBIN as subject matter leader with external stakeholders.
- Partner across functions to ensure robust systems in place to meet regulatory and stakeholder expectations in the areas of environmental compliance, product compliance, supplier conduct, and sustainability/ESG; support response to internal and external stakeholder information requests in these areas.
- Liaise with internal and external counsel and subject matter experts on environmental projects, matters, and regulations.
- Monitor and understand emerging trends in environmental programs and requirements; identify and communicate potential impacts; develop short- and long-term strategies to ensure adequate preparedness and response.
- Train, mentor, and develop EHS resources and leadership with respect to environmental programs, requirements, and risks.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field
- 15+ years of related experience required, including leading environmental programs in a manufacturing environment; experience with global operations and regulations and requirements preferred
- Advanced knowledge of the environmental regulations covering across all environmental media; experience with complex air and water permit requirements and procedures; experience evaluating and managing environmental consultants
- Extensive experience in environmental permitting, environmental sampling, waste management, vendor assessment, shipping/receiving hazardous material and waste, and chemical management/approval/reporting
- Experience with remedial system assessment, design, operation, and monitoring preferred; experience assessing and managing environmental reserves required; experience with environmental aspects of M&A
- Extensive experience conducting environmental audits and compliance assessments
- Experience leading environmental management system development and execution
- Demonstrated experience engaging people across organizations and building a culture of environmental excellence required
- Experience in ESG/Sustainability and Product Compliance/Stewardship preferred
- Team player with the ability to think conceptually, flexibly, and strategically
- Strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication/presentation skills
- Ability to travel both domestically and internationally without restriction; ability to travel up to 30%
- Professional environmental certifications preferred
