About the company

Intel designs and manufactures semiconductor chips, with a focus on microprocessors for personal computers, servers, and other devices. Its core product is the CPU on a single silicon chip, which executes instructions, handles arithmetic and logic operations, and coordinates the work of other computer components. Intel originated in memory chips but shifted decisively to microprocessors in the 1980s, becoming a central supplier for the PC era after the IBM partnership and its famous x86 processor line. This shift, large-scale manufacturing, and close ties with computer makers set Intel apart from competitors who remained focused on memory or other components. The company aims to power computing by delivering high-performance, energy-efficient silicon solutions that drive a wide range of computing devices and applications.

Intel buys Israeli quantum software firm Classiq for a reported $2.3B

Intel has announced it will acquire Classiq, an Israeli company that develops software tools for quantum computers. The companies did not disclose the price. Sources close to them put the deal at about $2.3 billion, which would make it one of Israel's largest exits in quantum computing.

Intel unveils Crescent Island GPU and Xeon racks for agentic AI inference

Intel (NasdaqGS:INTC) has introduced Crescent Island, a new GPU D-series built for large-scale, memory-heavy agentic AI inference. It also revealed Xeon-based rack designs that pair with the GPUs for dense data centre deployments. The company said it will focus on open ecosystem partnerships and Day 0 software support for emerging open-source AI models. The launch gives Intel a specific product for agentic AI and long-context inference, placing it alongside Nvidia and AMD in large data centres. Analysts have flagged high capital spending and loss-making foundry operations as key risks, so investors will watch whether the products win real volume and ecosystem share.

Meta falls 7% as $34.9B capex tops cash flow; investors punish AI spending cuts and hikes

Meta shares fell 7% on October 22 even though third-quarter sales rose 26% and beat estimates. Capital expenditure of $34.9 billion topped operating cash flow as AI spending outran the company's cash generation. MetLife's Drew Matus says investors punish both capex cuts and hikes. "I don't actually really know what people want from these people," he said. Microsoft and Alphabet report Wednesday, followed by Amazon and Intel on Thursday. The four make up about 15% of the Nasdaq 100, which has fallen roughly 7% this month. The Federal Reserve decides on rates Wednesday afternoon, hours before Microsoft and Alphabet report. Matus expects it to skip a move and revisit policy in December.

Intel's October 29 earnings: 42% gross margin must hold as $2.1B foundry loss and 57x valuation loom

Intel reports third-quarter results on October 29, with gross margin the key test. Shares have fallen 13% since the July report, though they are still up about 136% this year. Last quarter, revenue hit $16.1 billion and non-GAAP gross margin reached 41.8%. Chief financial officer David Zinsner guided to a flat 42% for this quarter. Analysts expect revenue of $16.47 billion. Intel Foundry's operating loss narrowed by $348 million to $2.1 billion. External foundry revenue was only $293 million, so named outside customers, especially for Intel 14A, would be a good sign. At $86.96, Intel trades near 57 times 2026 consensus earnings. Capex will top $20 billion this year, so foundry losses must keep shrinking to protect cash flow.

Intel stock is up 150% this year but 36% off its high, as AI demand lifts revenue 25% to $16.1B

Intel shares are up about 150% this year as of October 21, as the chipmaker posted its strongest revenue growth in more than 15 years. The stock has still fallen about 36% from its June high. Second-quarter revenue rose 25% to about $16.1 billion, driven by data centre demand. AI-related revenue grew more than 70% and made up about 70% of the total. Adjusted gross margin climbed to nearly 42% from about 30% a year ago. Adjusted earnings were $0.42 a share, against a $0.10 loss a year earlier. The foundry business lost $2.1 billion in the quarter. Management expects it to break even by the end of 2027, though it could slip to 2028. Intel reports third-quarter results on October 29, guiding for revenue of $15.8 billion to $16.8 billion.
