Requirements
  • An Associate’s degree in a relevant field is required.
  • A current Florida Medical Technologist License is required.
  • At least one year of relevant experience is listed in the qualifications.
  • Complete assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
  • Work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
  • Perform point-of-care activities and monthly point-of-care nursing training.
  • Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot quality control for each analyte in each nursing unit.
  • Maintain initial training records, annual recertification, quality assurance, critical-value monitoring and verification, audit trails, unit assessments, correlation studies, and parallel testing.
  • Perform semiannual linearities.
  • Process and document proficiency testing for each analyte and nursing department.
  • Validate, implement, and monitor current and new point-of-care testing methodologies.
  • Monitor critical-value results and ensure the provider-notification record is complete.
  • Visit all assigned areas weekly to verify that instruments are functioning properly and resolve nursing staff needs.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare cultures of tissue samples.
  • Establish and monitor programs that ensure data accuracy.
  • Examine slides of bodily fluids using a microscope or other relevant equipment.
  • Crossmatch blood for transfusions.
  • Analyze urine chemically to identify toxic components and collect and study blood samples to determine morphology.
  • Evaluate laboratory reports for accuracy.
  • Operate, calibrate, and safeguard laboratory equipment.
  • Deliver test results to physicians, researchers, and patients.
  • Identify unusual results, take appropriate action to make corrections, and solve problems.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.
  • Perform other duties or responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.
