Requirements
  • Knowledge of interpersonal relationship techniques and the ability to work constructively and collaboratively with a variety of individuals and groups.
  • Knowledge of patient rights and the responsibilities of patients and caregivers.
  • Knowledge of health information relevance and appropriate documentation methods, including recording medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests, and medical results in written or electronic form.
  • Knowledge of patient safety risks in a healthcare environment and the ability to take steps to reduce those risks.
  • Knowledge of life-support processes used to restore and maintain essential physiological functions and the ability to apply them in a patient-care situation.
  • Ability to process information accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Ability to provide service to pediatric through frail elderly populations in a manner demonstrating understanding of the individual's functional and developmental age.
  • Ability to lift and carry 40–50 pounds, frequently to continuously stand and walk, and perform role-specific activities such as kneeling, bending, squatting, and CPR.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of Standard Precautions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills and the ability to de-escalate agitated patients while preserving patient dignity.
Responsibilities
  • Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with Jefferson's values.
  • Recognize patients and their families or designated care partners and provide safe, compassionate, coordinated care based on their personal preferences, priorities, needs, cultural beliefs, and values.
  • Communicate with and support the interprofessional team, patients, families, and designated care partners.
  • Provide one-to-one direct observation to ensure the safety of assigned patients.
  • Assist patients with designated care activities.
  • Report observations of changes in patient condition or behavior to appropriate staff.
  • Complete required reports and documentation.
  • Provide virtual safety associate services when assigned based on campus needs.
Desired Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Previous related experience.
  • CPR certification.
  • Completion of a Patient/Sitter Companion Program.
  • Completion of a de-escalation class.
  • Previous experience in a clinical setting.
