Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in business, psychology, human resources, industrial relations, or another related field is required.
  • At least five years of experience in human resources or human capital management is required.
  • Understanding of a broad spectrum of human resources domains, including total rewards and compensation, recruitment, employee and labor relations, talent management, performance management, learning and development, continuous process improvement, change management, training, diversity and inclusion, workforce planning, and organizational development.
  • Experience consulting with business or organizational units on workforce planning, talent assessments, and performance management.
  • Experience presenting complex information articulately through presentations or data and reports to executive leadership.
  • Ability to drive human resources strategy through organization design and development, workforce planning, coaching, employee and labor relations consultation, program and project management, facilitation and communication, and the design and implementation of key talent metrics.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects with diverse teams.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt human resources expertise flexibly to different business units.
  • Ability to develop positive working relationships and rapport with team members.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Responsibilities
  • Engage proactively and tactically with leaders and human resources centers of expertise to develop tailored talent management strategies for organizational units.
  • Work with human resources subject matter experts to provide units with advice and coaching to mitigate university risk.
  • Apply knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day employee management to reduce legal risks and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Assist with employee or labor relations matters and litigation as directed.
  • Support talent management strategies, including workforce planning and succession planning, based on unit goals and talent-management nuances.
  • Identify how business managers can partner productively and proactively with human resources to respond to issues.
  • Develop human resources strategies addressing the unique needs of organizational units and advise unit management.
  • Address employee and labor relations matters through problem-solving, coaching, and advising, escalating issues as needed.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance to line management on performance management, career development, and disciplinary actions.
  • Communicate complex human resources policies and procedures so units can plan, act, and respond effectively.
  • Produce documents, proposals, presentations, and reports tailored to audience needs.
  • Maintain communication with business units and the human resources partner team and escalate employee conflicts as needed.
  • Use workforce data and insights to develop talent management strategies, conduct talent planning, and design and implement action plans.
  • Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and human resources leading practices.
  • Gather and analyze information on key talent and organizational indicators to support decision-making and workforce planning.
  • Advise units on hiring decisions, promotion, compensation, learning, professional development, and succession planning using data and leading practices.
  • Educate and advise proactively to improve the employee experience and mitigate risk.
  • Record and report compliance breaches or workplace concerns to human resources leadership and required reporting systems, and provide support to rectify them.
  • Provide guidance and counsel on complex employee matters.
  • Promote inclusive relationships and unbiased opportunities consistent with USC culture, values, and Code of Ethics.
  • Align actions and ideas with USC's strategic plan and the human resources organization's strategic plan.
  • Provide enhanced human resources service to support the university's academic and people missions.
  • Perform other related responsibilities as requested and when necessary.
Desired Qualifications
  • An advanced degree in business, psychology, human resources, industrial relations, or a related field.
  • At least seven years of experience in human resources or human capital management.
  • Experience in higher education or consulting.
  • Mentoring and coaching skills to enhance client management, leadership abilities, and relationships among teams.
  • Knowledge of Workday Human Capital Management applications and analytics.
  • Certification from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, Certified Professional in Learning and Performance, Organization Development Certified Professional Program, Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional or Senior Certified Professional, Professional in Human Resources, Senior Professional in Human Resources, or a similar certification.
