About the job

Requirements
  • 12+ years in progressively senior operating, program, general manager, product, strategy-and-operations, transformation, or executive-office roles, with a record of personally leading consequential cross-company work to measurable commercial or operating results.
  • Credibility with executives and functional leaders, including the ability to influence difficult decisions without reporting-line authority and handle sensitive business and organizational context with judgment.
  • Strong profit-and-loss judgment across growth, customer behavior, partner economics, pricing, capacity, utilization, and unit economics.
  • Ability to move from long-term strategy to quantitative detail and frontline execution, and communicate fragmented context as crisp decisions, plans, and updates.
  • Experience building lightweight operating mechanisms that create ownership, speed, and follow-through without bureaucracy.
  • Ability to apply first-principles reasoning, challenge assumptions, change direction when evidence supports it, and remain accountable through outcomes.
  • Experience in a multi-sided marketplace, logistics, delivery, mobility, aviation, infrastructure, or another hardware-enabled, regulated, or operations-intensive network.
Responsibilities
  • Define program outcomes and tradeoffs with the Directly Responsible Individual by establishing measures linking growth, customer and partner adoption, capacity, service quality, utilization, unit economics, and margin.
  • Own cross-program integration by translating priorities, exposing dependencies, resource conflicts, ownership gaps, and organizational barriers.
  • Make day-to-day cross-functional decisions within the delegated mandate, drive decisions to closure, and present well-framed choices to the Directly Responsible Individual when executive judgment or authority is required.
  • Drive outcomes across functions, and help define steady-state ownership and handoff timeliness.
  • Create and maintain the program's source of truth and communication system, including metrics, milestones, decisions, risks, and cross-team requests; use concise updates and operating reviews to surface issues early.
  • Work with metro teams, operators, partners, and customers to test headquarters assumptions against field evidence and adapt the plan quickly.

About the company

Zipline designs, builds, and operates autonomous delivery networks using two drone platforms: P1 fixed-wing drones for long-range, centralized deliveries with parachute drops, and P2 hover-drones for precise home deliveries. It provides end-to-end service, from drones and hubs to software and logistics, under government and enterprise contracts, earning revenue per delivery or per distribution center. The system enables zero-emission, instant logistics for medical supplies and consumer goods across multiple countries, with partners like Walmart and GNC. The goal is fast, reliable, scalable delivery that expands access to essential items, especially healthcare, through a fully integrated global network.

What believers are saying

  • Uber invested August 2026, targeting one million drone deliveries daily by 2029.
  • Zipline's September 2026 Côte d'Ivoire deal expands to ten hubs serving 12 million.
  • FAA's September 11 draft could authorize 220,000 daily deliveries across five Texas metros.

What critics are saying

  • FAA Part 108 remains unsigned since July 10, 2026, freezing national scaling.
  • Zipline's Texas expansion still needs public comments, environmental clearance, and final OpSpecs approval.
  • A single crash or airspace conflict can ground operations and kill a $20 billion round.

What makes Zipline unique

  • Zipline vertically integrates aircraft, dropboxes, software, and hub operations.
  • Its dual-platform network serves hospital deliveries and five-minute urban consumer drops.
  • Governments and brands buy logistics capacity, not vehicles, creating recurring service revenue.

Zipline secures 8-year Côte d'Ivoire deal to serve 12M people with drone delivery

US drone logistics company Zipline will expand operations in Côte d'Ivoire, building nine additional facilities to complement its existing site operational since 2023. The expansion aims to serve 12 million people, roughly a third of the Ivorian population, over the next eight years. During its three-year pilot programme, Zipline delivered nearly 4 million medical products — primarily vaccines and blood — to more than 200 healthcare centres in a region northwest of Abidjan. The Ivorian government will cover operating costs including pharmacy-grade warehousing, cold chain management, digital tracking, and delivery for eight years. Zipline expects the government to achieve a three-fold return on its investment, though the company declined to disclose the exact financial terms. The deal represents growing African government adoption of drone technology for delivering social services to hard-to-reach areas.
