- Provide targeted interventions to avoid hospitalizations and emergency-room visits.
- Work within a primary-care or specialty-care area as designated.
- Prior nursing experience in a related field is preferred.
- Prior experience in oncology, cardiovascular care, neonatal intensive care, nephrology, solid-organ transplantation, general medical/surgical care, emergency care, critical care, med spa, or dialysis is preferred, depending on the position.
- Experience interpreting and explaining physical, laboratory, and screening results is preferred, depending on the position.
- A Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree is preferred.
- Successful completion of a nephrology nurse education program is preferred, depending on the position.
- Knowledge of the health-care financial environment and reimbursement systems is preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel, is preferred.
- Experience with graphic software is preferred.
- Experience with patient-teaching materials is preferred.

Regents OK shared governance of Nebraska Medicine with Omaha Community Foundation. By Fred Knapp, Senior Reporter/Producer Nebraska Public Media The University of Nebraska Board of Regents gave the final go-ahead Tuesday to share governance of the Nebraska Medicine healthcare system with Omaha philanthropists and bring in money to expand facilities. The new board governing Nebraska Medicine will include four regents and four members from the Omaha Community Foundation, which will contribute an initial $300 million, said Regent Chairman Paul Kenney. Neither the regents nor the foundation representatives have yet been named publicly. The money will go toward a more than $2 billion development in Omaha called Project Health, which will replace the 70-year old Clarkson Hospital with a new, 14-story, 1.5 million-square-foot teaching hospital. Until this year, Nebraska Medicine had been jointly owned by the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Clarkson Regional Health Services. When Clarkson left the partnership, the university assumed a debt of $600 million for its share of the land and buildings it acquired. That caused some members of the Nebraska Legislature heartburn, said Speaker John Arch, who said it was a "no-brainer" to seek help from the Omaha philanthropic community. Arch, along with Gov. Jim Pillen and UNL Athletic Director Troy Dannen were on hand to endorse the deal at Tuesday's meeting. NU President Jeffrey Gold said the project will be historic. He said it would be "the largest public-private partnership ever contemplated in the state of Nebraska" and "the largest economic development project, which will bring over 8,000 new high-paying jobs to the state," while improving health care. UNMC Chancellor H. Dele Davis said the state has so far provided $300 million, the University and UNMC about $250 million, and Nebraska Medicine more than $500 million toward Project Health. The regents voted unanimously to authorize Kenney to negotiate final arrangements with the Omaha Community Foundation, to be approved at a future meeting.
Nebraska Medicine names new Health Center after drs. Shikhar and Kristin Saxena. India-West News Desk OMAHA, NE - A new four-story Nebraska Medicine facility in midtown Omaha is expected to open to patients in fall 2027 after construction wraps up next summer. The $99.3 million center at 42nd and Farnam streets will be called the Shikhar & Kristin Saxena Health Center, recognizing a leadership gift from Omaha physicians Shikhar and Kristin Saxena through the University of Nebraska Foundation. The facility will house dermatology, general internal medicine, outpatient gastrointestinal care and behavioral health services. It will become the main location for Nebraska Medicine's dermatology program and help meet growing demand for outpatient gastrointestinal and behavioral health care. Nebraska Medicine and the University of Nebraska Foundation announced the name August 17 at a special event where guests were invited to sign the building's final beam. The project is being funded in part by community donations, including the Saxenas' leadership contribution. Both Saxenas graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Medicine in 2007 and later established the Shikhar & Kristin Saxena Family Foundation. Shikhar Saxena practiced cardiology at Nebraska Medicine and is co-founder and board chairman of Milan Laser. Kristin Saxena worked as a pediatrician with Boys Town Pediatrics before becoming chief medical officer of Milan Laser. She stepped down from that position in 2020 to focus on the family foundation and other philanthropic efforts. Time & Calendars The couple said their foundation focuses on supporting the Omaha community and that they chose to support the project because of Nebraska Medicine's role in providing medical care. Nebraska Medicine CEO Michael Ash said the contribution will help bring essential services together in one location and create more opportunities for patients to receive care close to where they live and work. UNMC Chancellor H. Dele Davies said the project highlights the role of philanthropy and public-private partnerships in supporting the health center. The Saxenas also spoke about their experiences with health care, both as physicians and patients, and said those experiences reinforced the importance of the doctors, nurses, researchers, students, staff and others involved in patient care.
