Requirements
- Demonstrate enhanced knowledge and specific expertise in sonography and ultrasound, including basic anatomy, physiology, and physics as they pertain to sonography and ultrasound patient care.
- Use imaging equipment, office equipment, related materials, and Synapse efficiently.
- Read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
- For the Ultrasound Technician/Diagnostic Medical Sonographer pathway, be registry eligible by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers and obtain Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer and Registered Vascular Technologist or Registered Vascular Sonographer certification within the stated eligibility period.
- For the Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer pathway, hold current ultrasound registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers and obtain Registered Vascular Technologist or Registered Vascular Sonographer certification within the stated eligibility period.
- Perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation; hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within the normal range.
- Maintain required education, compliance training, policies, procedures, and behavioral standards.
Responsibilities
- Provide imaging services and patient transportation for neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, with thorough explanations and communication for patients and families.
- Uphold safety standards, follow established protocols and guidelines, and observe Joint Commission standards.
- Use I Care principles for proper patient identification, correct examinations, and improved patient communication and engagement.
- Use AIDET principles, prioritize patient and customer satisfaction, and coordinate with departments, modalities, and personnel to provide patient and family care.
- Use supplies, equipment, and department resources responsibly while maintaining financial stewardship.
- Understand clinical history, supply and examination charges, and billing practices.
- Correlate clinical history with the examinations being performed.
- Perform duties necessary to maintain accreditation.
- Maintain a safe and clean ultrasound environment.
- Participate in ultrasound quality control and complete documentation for all ultrasound equipment.
- Work with managers, supervisors, and staff to control inventory and supplies and communicate problems and supply needs.
- Care for, clean, and maintain imaging, transport, office, and related equipment and software.
- Instruct and supervise student technologists and new employees as assigned.
- Perform assigned call duties during off-duty hours when required.
- When assigned as a charge or lead technologist, facilitate and coordinate services, serve as a contact for radiologists, physician offices, and departments, communicate protocol and equipment changes across shifts, and monitor area or department needs.
- Meet applicable per diem holiday, availability, work-frequency, and resignation-notice requirements.
- Function proficiently in the assigned area with little or no supervision.
- Maintain performance, patient and employee satisfaction, and financial standards.
- Use electronic mail, time-and-attendance software, learning-management software, and the intranet, and respond to communications promptly.
- Perform other assigned duties.
- Maintain the physical presence required for onsite work.
