Requirements
  • A high school diploma or possession of a GED certificate is required, or an associate degree or bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in computer science, information technology, software development, or a closely related field.
  • With a high school diploma or GED, six years of software development and systems integration experience are required, including two years of full-stack application development in a team environment and two years working with LangChain, Ollama, or similar frameworks using vector databases for local large language models and agentic artificial intelligence systems.
  • With an associate degree, four years of software development and systems integration experience are required, including one year of full-stack application development in a team environment and one year working with LangChain, Ollama, or similar frameworks using vector databases for local large language models and agentic artificial intelligence systems.
  • With a bachelor’s degree, two years of software development and systems integration experience are required.
  • Three years of experience in a technical position within the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Information Services Division involving software development, systems integration, data reporting, or database management may satisfy the requirement.
  • Knowledge of machine learning frameworks such as ML.NET, Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras is required.
  • Knowledge of large language models, retrieval-augmented generation pipelines, and artificial intelligence agent frameworks is required.
  • Basic understanding of secure coding principles and Criminal Justice Information Services data protection requirements is required.
  • Working knowledge of office policies and procedures is required.
  • Ability to work with structured and unstructured datasets from multiple sources such as databases, application programming interfaces, logs, and documents is required.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems, test possible solutions, and apply practical approaches is required.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment is required.
  • Ability to stay current with new artificial intelligence tools and techniques while maintaining responsible data practices is required.
  • Attendance at the specified Sheriff's Office work location is required.
  • Depending on assignment, possession of a valid Florida Driver License may be required at the time of employment, and driving history will be reviewed.
  • Applicants must meet the stated restrictions concerning tattoos, illegal drug sale or use, felony convictions, specified misdemeanor convictions, and dishonorable military discharge.
  • Successful completion of a background investigation, polygraph, medical evaluation, and drug screening is required.
  • Residency within Hillsborough County or the specified surrounding counties, within the 60-mile parameter of Falkenburg Road Jail, is required at appointment or employment.
Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and support custom applications and data integrations to enhance agency operations, with a focus on functionality, performance, and secure handling of sensitive information.
  • Develop, train, and optimize machine learning models using ML.NET, Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras.
  • Integrate artificial intelligence models into existing in-house applications and services running in secure on-premises environments.
  • Experiment with large language models and agentic coding tools, evaluating their potential for secure internal automation and analytics tasks.
  • Perform data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model evaluation using structured and unstructured data from multiple internal systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure models and data workflows align with Criminal Justice Information Services and Personally Identifiable Information protection standards.
  • Work with analysts, investigators, and Information Technology staff to identify opportunities where artificial intelligence can provide operational value.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and deployment activities within a collaborative team environment.
  • Continuously learn and prototype emerging artificial intelligence tools while maintaining strong data governance discipline.
  • Work within an office environment at a law enforcement agency, including prolonged periods at a keyboard or workstation.
  • Work standard business hours and, when required, non-standard hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Respond promptly to assigned duties during emergencies or disasters as directed by the management chain, Division or District Commander, or Sheriff.
Desired Qualifications
