Responsibilities
- Evaluate adult and geriatric patients using diagnostic muscle, nerve, joint, and functional ability tests, and provide assessment and treatment plans for appropriate patient problems.
- Administer heat, cold, and compression modalities to reduce pain and edema and maximize strength, range of motion, and functional abilities.
- Instruct, assist, and supervise patients in therapeutic exercises, fine motor coordination activities, transfers, and activities of daily living.
- Direct patients in the use of adaptive equipment, splints, and orthotic and prosthetic devices, and fabricate or modify these devices when appropriate.
- Document and maintain patient and departmental records, including initial evaluations, progress notes, discharge summaries, treatment attendance, and patient charges.
- Provide education and instruction to patients, their families, facility staff, and the community to promote rehabilitation, injury prevention, and wellness.
- Assist in promoting and maintaining a high level of quality patient care.
- Assist with administrative functions, including maintaining department supplies and equipment and making recommendations for the budgeting process.
- Use an appropriate developmental register in verbal and written evaluations, treatment, and education.
- Recognize modality and media contraindications according to physical and developmental factors.
- Develop referral and discharge plans consistent with patient and family needs, using appropriate age- and development-related community resources.
- Maintain current clinical knowledge related to the age groups and diagnoses treated.
- Perform other assigned duties.
