Requirements
  • A minimum of 3+ years of industrial or advanced academic experience after a Master’s degree focused on electrolyte or battery materials development.
  • Strong knowledge of common lithium-ion electrolyte systems, including lithium salts, solvents, additives, and their specific roles.
  • Experience applying physicochemical methods to formulation problems and understanding density, viscosity, and ionic conductivity.
  • Hands-on expertise in advanced electrochemical characterization, including Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy and galvanostatic cycling.
  • Experience working with moisture-sensitive materials in a glovebox or dry-room environment and handling high-purity chemicals.
  • Proficiency in battery cell testing using coin and pouch cells and in scientific data analysis using statistical or scientific software.
  • Ability to onboard and integrate existing in-house knowledge with new discoveries and challenges.
Responsibilities
  • Design and develop electrolyte formulations compatible with high-energy-density lithium-ion anodes and high-nickel-content NMC cathode chemistries to achieve long cycle life safely.
  • Design electrolyte systems that improve safety performance, including dimensional stability during battery cycling and storage.
  • Provide technical assessments of existing electrolyte systems, additives, and lithium salts in high-energy, high-capacity rechargeable lithium-ion cells.
  • Characterize coin- and pouch-cell performance using new materials and formulations.
  • Use electrochemical testing and analytical techniques to understand reaction mechanisms, failure modes, and potential benefits of new formulations.
  • Apply fundamental physical chemistry concepts and experimental techniques to develop electrolyte formulation strategies.
  • Independently plan, execute, manage, and communicate project progress.
  • Support product development for the prototype-manufacturing team as required.
  • Design and implement streamlined testing metrics, including Design of Experiments, to shorten the research and development learning cycle.
  • Communicate new concepts, findings, and project updates to the team and draw actionable insights from discussions.
  • Serve as a technical mentor and leader to junior staff by guiding experimental design and professional development.
  • Integrate and synthesize in-house knowledge with new discoveries to accelerate development and problem-solving.
  • Contribute to the company’s intellectual property portfolio through invention disclosures and patent applications.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience developing semi-solid electrolytes, including in-situ gel polymer, polymer, or hybrid solid/liquid electrolytes.
  • A doctorate in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field with 3+ years of post-doctoral industrial experience.
  • Formulation development beyond liquid electrolytes, including polymer electrolytes, ionic liquids, or solid-state electrolytes.
  • Direct experience working with and characterizing large-format cells, such as prismatic or cylindrical cells.
  • Experience with computational chemistry or battery-modeling tools.
  • Experience in the mobile-energy or automotive space.
