Requirements
  • An associate's degree from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology is required.
  • Registered ARRT (R) upon hire, with ARRT CT certification required within 15 months of hire.
  • Registered ARRT (NM) or NMTCB, with ARRT CT certification required within 15 months of hire.
  • Attempt advanced CT certification by 12 months and complete it no later than 15 months from employment.
  • Successfully complete hospital, core, and department-specific orientation.
  • Obtain BLS certification within 6 months after hire.
  • Demonstrate human-relations skills to interact with patients, physicians, and others in difficult or sensitive situations, including verbal and written communication, problem solving, and assertiveness.
  • Demonstrate customer-service orientation.
  • Demonstrate leadership and organizational skills, including the ability to work independently and take initiative within established procedures.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude.
  • Operate basic computer programs associated with department record keeping.
Responsibilities
  • Receive or escort patients into the examination area, review pertinent patient information, and instruct patients about the examination.
  • Prepare and calibrate equipment for the procedure.
  • Assist radiologists during special procedure studies, including angiograms and vena cavagrams, to provide diagnostic and special radiology examinations.
  • In consultation with radiologists, perform computerized tomography scans on any body part as ordered by a physician.
  • Operate sophisticated electronic equipment during examinations, observe patient vital signs and other pertinent data, and anticipate physician needs.
  • Administer or assist with administration of contrast media under radiologist direction.
  • Work as a radiologic technologist in other radiology sections as workload requires.
  • Work in the radiology department or other hospital areas as necessary to accommodate patient and physician needs.
  • Operate equipment properly and carefully, perform maintenance and quality-control work regularly, and promptly report malfunctions or needed adjustments or repairs.
  • Perform first aid as required and assist in emergencies, including adverse reactions to contrast media.
  • Observe and practice sterile technique and prevent cross-contamination of contagious diseases.
  • Maintain cleanliness of procedure rooms and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate patient and file documentation.
  • Maintain appropriate supply levels in assigned areas.
  • Demonstrate or oversee on-the-job training for student technologists and other nonprofessional assistants as assigned.
