About the job

Requirements
  • College education in Electronics, or equivalent hands-on/apprenticeship experience.
  • At least 3–5 years of relevant work experience; prior exposure to in-line inspection tools (Caliper, MFL, UTWM/UTCD, EMAT) is a strong plus.
  • Solid knowledge of electronic instrumentation and measurement.
  • Experience soldering, calibrating, and testing electronic printed circuit boards and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of inventory and stock management; experience maintaining stock records or running a parts store is a plus, but formal supply-chain credentials are not required at this store’s scale.
  • Ability to handle basic procurement and requisition tasks, including obtaining quotations, raising requisitions, and tracking deliveries.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ability to learn the company’s enterprise resource planning or inventory-tracking system.
  • Ability to work under time pressure and changing mobilization priorities while maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Familiarity with pipeline pig tracking and locating equipment (electromagnetic/acoustic transmitters, above-ground marker units, handheld locators) is a plus, not required at start, and expected to be learned quickly.
  • Valid driver’s license for local supplier pickups and parts runs.
  • Ability to handle inspection-tool components within company-defined limits, work in a workshop environment, stand and walk for extended periods, use required personal protective equipment, and work safely around machinery, batteries, and electrical/electronic equipment.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to walk and climb while performing duties, including maneuvering within a refinery or plant environment and accessing elevated platforms by ladders and stairwells.
  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing, or other communication capabilities, to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to maintain focus and multitask effectively.
  • Ability to wear safety equipment required by the safety department for personal protection in manufacturing environments, where needed.
  • Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodations, to perform office duties and travel to off-site locations when necessary.
Responsibilities
  • Assemble and prepare Caliper, MFL, UTWM/UTCD, and EMAT tools using approved written instructions, schematics, design specifications, test equipment, hand tools, and precision soldering techniques.
  • Perform electronic assembly, soldering, rework, and inspection in accordance with approved workmanship procedures, electrostatic-discharge control requirements, and applicable IPC standards.
  • Calibrate sensors, magnetizers, transducers, odometer wheels, and inertial measurement units on benches and pull-rig/test-loop systems against reference standards before each mobilization, following approved procedures and calibration requirements.
  • Execute dry-run and pull-test acceptance procedures; ensure tools meet every acceptance criterion and are signed off before release.
  • Pressure-test external electronics and containers.
  • Perform final checks, calibration, and sign-off on tools before mobilization.
  • Assemble experimental circuitry or prototype builds according to engineering instructions for research and development and internal projects.
  • Build, test, and capacity-verify battery packs against run-duration requirements, including a margin for delays.
  • Rebuild, rewire, and replace battery packs and individual cells only under approved procedures, applicable safety requirements, and authorized competency limits.
  • Monitor battery-pack health and flag batteries approaching end of life before they cause field failures.
  • Handle, package, label, and document battery packs for domestic and cross-border shipments according to applicable Department of Transportation/International Air Transport Association lithium-battery transportation requirements and company procedures.
  • Prepare, install, and battery-test tool-mounted electromagnetic, acoustic, or magnetic tracking transmitters before each mobilization; confirm signal strength and battery life cover the expected run duration.
  • Maintain and pre-run test above-ground marker units, including battery and solar power systems, antenna and geophone accessories, GPS time synchronization, and onboard data storage.
  • Maintain and battery-test handheld and vehicle-mounted pig locators/receivers used by field crews to track tool progress and locate stopped or stuck tools.
  • Maintain pig signallers and passing indicators at launch, receive, and key trap locations, including mechanical-trigger, battery, and alarm-function checks.
  • Retrieve and back up above-ground marker passage data after each run and provide it promptly to the Data Analysis team in the required format for odometer/inertial measurement unit correlation.
  • Troubleshoot and repair faulty tracking equipment returned from the field; keep units that fail pre-run acceptance out of service until repaired and retested.
  • Maintain spare transmitters, above-ground marker units, locators, batteries, and antennas at levels suited to the Western Hemisphere mobilization schedule so a failed unit does not delay a launch.
  • Test, troubleshoot, and repair completed tools, field returns, and incoming printed circuit boards according to approved procedures and electronic workmanship requirements.
  • Perform component-level fault diagnosis using a multimeter, oscilloscope, and related diagnostic equipment.
  • Operate drills and other machine tools to fabricate or repair tool components such as flaps and connectors.
  • Lead or support root-cause analysis of tools that underperform or fail in the field and close out resulting corrective actions.
  • Propose improvements to tool-preparation processes, test procedures, and store operations.
  • Maintain failure, repair, and component-replacement histories for critical electronic assemblies and use recurring-failure data to support preventive maintenance and reliability improvements.
  • Own the electronics store, including components, spares, consumables, tool accessories, small tools, transmitters, above-ground marker units, and locators.
  • Receive, inspect, and verify incoming components and materials against purchase orders and packing lists.
  • Maintain accurate, current inventory records in the company’s enterprise resource planning system or an equivalent tracking system.
  • Organize, label, and store inventory in a safe, systematic, and auditable manner.
  • Set and monitor minimum and maximum stock levels based on actual Western Hemisphere tool-preparation volume, avoiding stockouts and excess or obsolete stock.
  • Conduct periodic physical counts and cycle counts at the frequency set by company procedures; promptly reconcile discrepancies.
  • Maintain serial/lot traceability and shelf-life or expiry controls where applicable, and classify critical spares according to their impact on mobilization readiness.
  • Issue components and consumables against tool-preparation and repair jobs.
  • Identify slow-moving, obsolete, or damaged stock and recommend disposition.
  • Identify component, material, and consumable needs proactively ahead of tool-preparation schedules.
  • Source suppliers and obtain quotations for components, spares, and consumables.
  • Prepare and submit purchase requisitions according to procurement policy and approved budget; purchasing or supplier-approval authority is not included unless formally delegated.
  • Track order status and coordinate delivery timing with tool-preparation and mobilization schedules.
  • Maintain basic supplier records and flag recurring quality, pricing, or lead-time issues.
  • Record daily activity in the enterprise resource planning system, Tool Prep Report, or Activity Register on the same day.
  • Maintain calibration certificates and measurement-traceability records for tools, sensors, reference standards, and test instruments; identify and quarantine overdue or out-of-tolerance equipment and escalate potential impacts on completed work according to procedure.
  • Download, verify, and back up tool data promptly after every run.
  • Maintain work areas in a neat, tidy, and health, safety, and environment-compliant manner.
  • Perform other reasonable tasks in support of shop/workshop priorities as they arise.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior exposure to in-line inspection tools (Caliper, magnetic flux leakage, ultrasonic wall measurement/ultrasonic crack detection, and electromagnetic acoustic transducer tools).
  • Experience maintaining stock records or running a parts store.
  • Familiarity with pipeline pig tracking/locating equipment, including electromagnetic/acoustic transmitters, above-ground marker units, and handheld locators.
