Requirements
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools, or another recognized regional or national accreditation board, or equivalent.
  • Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified designation, or achievement of this designation within six months of hire, is required and must be maintained.
  • A valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider cardiopulmonary resuscitation card is required.
  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except where legal requirements such as a license, certification, or registration apply.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate testing required to complete the transplant evaluation work-up at the direction of the Post-Transplant Registered Nurse Coordinator.
  • Coordinate testing requirements during the post-transplant phase of care at the direction of the Post-Transplant Registered Nurse Coordinator.
  • Provide documentation to providers, Emergency Medical Services, local hospitals, and the electric company at transplant discharge.
  • Educate patients and caregivers about transplant medications and the signs and symptoms of infection during patient contacts.
  • Collaborate with Transplant Registered Nurse Coordinators to provide pre-transplant and post-transplant teaching to patients and caregivers, and document findings in the medical record.
  • Work collaboratively with the team and assist colleagues as necessary to ensure efficient program operations.
  • Enter ventricular assist device equipment serial numbers into the appropriate database system at implantation and throughout the care continuum, as indicated.
  • Participate in the Transplant Program quality improvement process and related projects and working groups, as indicated.
