Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience learning the automatic plant trade as an apprentice.
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools of the automatic plant trade.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the automatic plant trade.
  • Knowledge of the theory and principles of heating and cooling systems.
  • Knowledge of the operation of electronic controls and motors associated with heating and cooling systems.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair equipment malfunctions.
  • Ability to interpret and work from blueprints, schematic drawings, and specifications.
  • Ability to accurately follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors and associates.
  • Possession of a proper class license valid to operate a motor vehicle in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure of appointment.
Responsibilities
  • Analyze, test, adjust, and repair automatic oil- and gas-fired boiler controls.
  • Check meter and gauge readings and adjust equipment controls to verify readings under specified operating conditions.
  • Record and analyze equipment temperature, hours of operation, and fuel consumption to diagnose equipment malfunctions.
  • Repair, install, and maintain gas and oil burners and controls, tanks, pressure vessels, and related industrial and residential equipment gauges and valves, including pressure, sequential, boiler, lead-lag, and safety valves and gauges.
  • Perform fuel analyses to diagnose equipment malfunctions.
  • Test, adjust, install, and repair equipment using blueprints, schematic drawings, and verbal or written instructions.
  • Prepare project time and materials estimates.
  • Oversee the work of trades trainees and helpers.
