Requirements
  • A BS, MS, or PhD in computer science, data science, artificial intelligence, computational biology, bioengineering, applied mathematics, physics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Strong experience in one or more of the following areas: computer vision; image recognition and segmentation; deep learning; generative artificial intelligence; diffusion models; or multimodal or foundation-model approaches.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and apply advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning methods to research questions in aging biology.
  • Design, build, and optimize computational approaches for large-scale image and biological data analysis.
  • Build and apply models in areas such as computer vision, image recognition, segmentation, deep learning, generative artificial intelligence, diffusion models, and multimodal or foundation-model approaches.
  • Analyze complex imaging datasets and extract biologically meaningful patterns and insights.
  • Collaborate closely with experimental and computational researchers to integrate artificial intelligence methods with biological research.
  • Contribute to the design of new research directions at the intersection of artificial intelligence, imaging, and aging biology.
  • Contribute to a collaborative and intellectually engaged research environment.

The Buck names Lisa Seitz Gruwell as Chief Advancement Officer. The Buck Institute for Research on Aging today announced the appointment of Lisa Seitz Gruwell as its Chief Advancement Officer. In this role, Seitz Gruwell will lead all aspects of the Buck's advancement efforts - philanthropy, communications, and marketing - and serve as a key member of the Institute's executive leadership team. "We are thrilled to welcome Lisa to the Buck," said Eric Verdin, MD, President and CEO. "Lisa has proven and deep expertise in philanthropy, communications, and community building for mission-driven organizations. Seitz Gruwell joins the Buck after 15 years at Wikipedia, where she was Chief Advancement Officer and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Wikipedia Foundation and President of the Wikimedia Endowment. During Seitz Gruwell's time at Wikipedia, she increased philanthropic giving from approximately $30M to $230M per year and founded the Wikimedia Endowment, a separate charity that grew to over $200M under her leadership. She also led the community growth teams that recruited, trained, and supported the global community of over 280,000 active volunteers who create Wikipedia. Sens.ai's brain age clock shows 5.18-year improvement in 56 days with MRI-grade accuracy

Sens.ai, a cognitive longevity platform, has introduced BrainYears, the first validated EEG-based biological clock for measuring functional brain age, in a study co-authored with the Buck Institute for Research on Aging. The study showed participants using Sens.ai's platform decreased their brain age by an average of 5.18 years over 56 days, whilst the control group showed no improvement. The model, built on 643 EEG-derived biomarkers, achieved MRI-grade accuracy whilst remaining portable and cost-effective. Sens.ai combines EEG neurofeedback, transcranial photobiomodulation and heart rate variability biofeedback in a wearable headset. Participants also demonstrated a 10.2% increase in processing speed and 40.6% reduction in errors. BrainYears will be available for clinical practice integration from late May 2026.

Buck Institute launches Healthspan Horizons to measure and extend healthy years of life
