Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related rigorous technical field.
  • At least 4 years of hands-on software engineering experience.
  • Strong programming fundamentals and the ability to become productive quickly in an unfamiliar codebase.
  • Experience building production backend services and data integrations using REST APIs, data pipelines, and asynchronous workflows.
  • Strong debugging skills across application code, data, infrastructure, and third-party systems.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure.
  • Ability to design a system, implement it, and remain accountable for its behavior in production.
  • Excellent communication with both engineers and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguous customer environments where the real problem must be discovered rather than simply specified.
Responsibilities
  • Work directly with district IT, data, curriculum, and operations teams to understand their systems, constraints, and existing workflows.
  • Turn loosely defined customer needs into concrete technical designs, implementation plans, and production software.
  • Own the technical relationship from initial discovery through integration, customization, launch, and stabilization.
  • Build and operate integrations with PowerSchool, Infinite Campus, Synergy, Clever, ClassLink, and other district systems.
  • Implement REST API integrations, SFTP pipelines, single sign-on and rostering flows, data transformations, validation systems, and backfills.
  • Extend Edia’s products with district-specific workflows, internal tools, reports, interfaces, and automations.
  • Ship full-stack functionality when a successful deployment requires changes across backend services, data models, and user interfaces.
  • Safely migrate and reconcile sensitive, inconsistent, and incomplete district data.
  • Debug schema mismatches, authentication problems, API limitations, data-quality failures, and unexpected customer environments.
  • Build appropriate testing, observability, reconciliation, retry, and recovery mechanisms for every integration.
  • Remain accountable through go-live rather than treating code completion as the finish line.
  • Balance immediate customer needs with maintainability, security, and the long-term health of the platform.
  • Identify repeated customer problems and turn one-off solutions into reusable platform capabilities.
  • Build integration frameworks, configuration systems, implementation tooling, and operational playbooks that let Edia support districts faster.
  • Partner closely with Product and Engineering to influence the roadmap based on field learnings.
  • Exercise judgment about when to customize, when to generalize, and when to push back on a fragile approach.
Desired Qualifications
  • Node.js and TypeScript experience.
  • AWS experience.
  • React or other full-stack product development experience.
  • Experience with student information systems, learning management systems, rostering, single sign-on, education-data, or public-sector integrations.
  • Experience in forward-deployed engineering, technical consulting, implementation engineering, or early-stage startup work.
  • Enjoy working directly with users and domain experts.
  • Investigate the surrounding workflow instead of implementing the first requested feature literally.
  • Move between a district meeting, an unfamiliar API, a production incident, and a code review without losing the thread.
  • Strong judgment about which customer requests should become reusable product capabilities.
  • Care deeply about correctness, maintainability, and the operational details that determine whether a system works.
  • Seek out important problems and drive them to completion without waiting for a fully formed specification.

Edia is an AI-powered math education platform for students in grades 6-12 that targets school districts (B2B). Its platform uses AI-driven feedback and real-time data analytics to personalize math learning and monitor student progress across a district. The product works by integrating with school systems to deliver adaptive practice, instant feedback for students, and dashboards for teachers and administrators that highlight performance trends. Its key differentiator is an outcome-based guarantee: if student math outcomes don’t improve within one year of adoption, Edia refunds the entire cost. Edia’s goal is to deliver measurable improvements in math achievement for districts and provide a transparent, data-driven path to better student results.

What believers are saying

  • Salt Lake City selected Edia in June 2026 for 18,000 students through 2029.
  • Gates Foundation committed $623,700 in November 2025 for Edia's K-12 work.
  • Edia gained district partnerships with San Francisco, Cincinnati, Wichita, and Denver in 2025.

What critics are saying

  • New York City banned AI tools through grade 8 on September 3, 2026.
  • Edia's classroom pilots depend on district trust, creating long enterprise sales cycles.
  • If math gains miss the guarantee, refunds destroy margins and damage renewals.

What makes Edia unique

  • Edia bundles AI math coaching, benchmarking, intervention, and progress monitoring into one district platform.
  • Its refund guarantee ties pricing directly to one-year student outcome improvement.
  • ISTE awarded Edia AI Math in 2026, validating usability and standards alignment.

Salt Lake City schools deploy AI to halve chronic absenteeism for 18,000 students by 2029

Salt Lake City School District has selected Edia Learning, an AI-powered attendance solution, in a multi-year partnership aiming to reduce chronic absenteeism from 28% to 10% by 2029. The initiative targets more than 18,000 students, 59% of whom are students of colour and 48% economically disadvantaged. Edia conducts two-way AI-powered conversations with families via SMS, automatically detecting and translating across more than 100 languages. The platform reaches out within minutes of an absence to collect reasons and flags barriers like transportation issues or bullying for staff intervention. Last year, 29% of SLCSD students were chronically absent, each missing nearly a full month of instruction. The district serves a diverse community where over 80 languages are spoken.
