Requirements
  • Graduated from an approved American Registry of Radiologic Technologists program with a specialized diploma, or have a high school diploma/GED with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification.
  • Have knowledge of radiography tools, techniques, and applications, and be able to utilize imaging technology on patients for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes.
  • Have knowledge of and ability to prepare patients for diagnostic/radiological imaging and monitor patients’ reactions during and after a procedure, responding to emergent situations by applying appropriate measures.
  • Hold Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Be able to lift and carry 40–50 pounds, push or pull patients on beds or stretchers, perform lateral transfers, and stand or walk frequently to continuously.
  • May be required to travel between Jefferson sites.
Responsibilities
  • Process and evaluate the technical quality of images, including density, contrast, definition, and distortion.
  • Maintain critical positioning of the patient and equipment during contrast-media flow to ensure patient safety and successful examination results.
  • Instruct patients on body positioning during MRI examinations and explain the MRI procedure before and after scanning while answering patient questions.
  • Determine equipment requirements for procedures based on the physician’s tentative diagnoses and obtain scout films for the physician’s preliminary viewing.
  • Maintain MRI equipment by performing scheduled cleaning and testing, documenting results, and notifying supervision of malfunctioning equipment.
  • Implement MRI safety guidelines and conduct proper MRI safety during the imaging process.
  • Perform other technologist duties as directed by the lead technologist, supervisor, or manager, including quality assurance and/or quality control activities.
  • Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with Jefferson’s stated workplace values.
  • Prepare pertinent information for physician and care-team review and deliver patient care and education before, during, and after diagnostic imaging procedures.
