Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, including power systems and power electronics subjects, with proven professional experience and technical expertise in power system engineering, preferably involving AC substations and power plant system studies.
  • At least 6 years of experience in network or transient studies for conventional electric-energy generation, FACTS, renewable energy, or inverter-based power systems in offshore wind, industrial, utility substations, or grid interconnects.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 20%, including internationally, and comply with GE Vernova travel guidelines.
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada for Canadian-based positions or in the United States for U.S.-based positions.
Responsibilities
  • Support project execution, sales, and business development by providing technical expertise in designing electrification solutions for EHV/HV substations.
  • Perform all required power system studies and calculations using power system software, independently or by specifying scope, reviewing, commenting on, and directing or overseeing third-party providers.
  • Perform main circuit parameter studies; load flow, reactive power capability and compensation, and power factor studies; short-circuit and combined short-circuit ratio studies; transient switching and insulation coordination studies; harmonic performance and stability studies; transient ride-through and dynamic performance studies; overall system performance assessment studies; low- and high-voltage ride-through studies; arc-flash studies; and cable selection and sizing.
  • Integrate dedicated studies for systems using combined AC power sources, including conventional generation, AC battery energy storage systems, turbines, and renewable sources.
  • Provide clear, succinct technical guidance, analysis, and reports to customers, project teams, and stakeholders.
  • Guide and coordinate engineering tasks to meet project and tender requirements.
Desired Qualifications
  • A professional engineering license and willingness to review and seal personal work and the work of others under supervision.
  • A master's degree in electrical engineering, including power systems and power electronics subjects, with proven professional experience and technical expertise in power system engineering.
  • Knowledge of North American Electric Reliability Corporation and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission compliance requirements and/or independent system operator interconnection or transmission planning guidelines.
  • Strong knowledge of medium- and high-voltage substation North American standards and guidelines, including Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and American National Standards Institute standards and codes such as the National Electrical Code and National Electrical Safety Code, plus local grid codes and related equipment.
  • Ability to engineer design packages when no clear customer specification is provided.
  • Working knowledge of design calculations for primary and secondary equipment, including battery sizing and direct-current system component selection; power transformer and circuit breaker selection; circuit protection; control and power cable selection and rating; bus, fittings, insulator, and arrester selection; ground-grid design; and lightning protection.
  • Expertise with frequency- and time-domain simulation tools such as PSCAD, PSS/E, ETAP, and DIgSILENT PowerFactory.

SHINE joins GE Vernova ARPA-E project to modernise nuclear fuel recycling accountability with AI

SHINE is joining a GE Vernova-led project funded by the Department of Energy's Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy to develop modernised nuclear material tracking systems for fuel recycling facilities. The project aims to use artificial intelligence to optimise spent nuclear fuel tracking and measurement. As a subcontractor, SHINE is developing improved sensor deployment and AI-powered material-tracking systems for nuclear fuel recycling facilities. The technology, called Monochromatic Assays Yielding Enhanced Reliability (MAYER), is designed to track and measure nuclear material in real time, feeding information into a virtual digital twin. The system aims to replace current methods involving redundant instrumentation, manual sampling, and periodic shutdowns for inventory checks. SHINE's participation supports its broader goal of building a commercial nuclear fuel recycling facility in a lower-security regulatory category.

GE Vernova's wind orders plunge 40% as AI-driven gas turbine boom masks segment's struggles

GE Vernova holds $176B backlog yet stock dips 5% as wind losses and spending increases spook investors

GE Vernova, General Electric's former energy division spun off in 2024, reported a $176.3 billion backlog in Q2 2026, up 37% year-over-year. The company's growth has been driven by expanding cloud, AI, and data centre markets requiring increased power infrastructure. Total orders surged 89% in the first half of 2026, with Power and Electrification segments rising 99% and 131% respectively. GE Vernova expects full-year revenue growth of 19% to 22%. Despite strong performance, shares declined 5% over the past month whilst the S&P 500 gained 3%. GE Vernova books $176B backlog with 134% gas order growth as Eaton rides 65% data center surge

GE Vernova and Eaton released second-quarter 2026 results highlighting surging demand from AI infrastructure buildout. Vernova reported $5.50 billion in Power segment revenue with gas equipment orders up 134% organically. The company booked $2.7 billion in data centre orders during the quarter alone and expects to reach at least 125 gigawatts of gas equipment under contract by year-end. Total backlog stands at $176 billion. Eaton posted revenue of $8.531 billion, up 21.39%, with adjusted earnings per share of $3.15. Data centre revenue grew roughly 65% in both its Electrical Americas and Electrical Global divisions. The Boyd Thermal liquid-cooling business, acquired for $9.55 billion in March, generated $432 million in second-quarter revenue. Vernova guided free cash flow to $11.5 billion to $12.5 billion, whilst Eaton raised its full-year earnings guidance to $13.40 to $13.60 per share.
