Requirements
  • At least 8 years of progressive operations management experience, preferably in production, shipyard, scrap yard, or related positions; experience in shipbreaking, demolition, or scrap operations is a plus.
  • Demonstrated expertise in safety management and work in high-risk environments involving shipyards and heavy equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations and working knowledge of Environmental Protection Agency programs.
  • A strong track record of leading teams and improving operational performance.
  • Proven success driving measurable production improvements, including efficiency, throughput, cost savings, and waste reduction.
  • Expertise in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to spend approximately 80% of the time in the field and perform effectively in a dirty, dusty, physically demanding outdoor environment.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and implement practical, results-oriented solutions.
  • A bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish language proficiency.
Responsibilities
  • Drive a safety-first culture by ensuring activities comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards, site rules, and company safety policies.
  • Oversee and enforce safe operations involving ships, heavy industrial machinery, and high-risk equipment.
  • Maintain a strong field presence by observing, coaching, and correcting operations to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant performance.
  • Lead and motivate a unionized workforce while fostering positive labor relations, accountability, productivity, and adherence to established procedures.
  • Collaborate with leadership, subcontractor management, and safety teams to achieve operational objectives.
  • Lead a production team and manage the costs and profitability of the dedicated production site to achieve safety and productivity goals.
  • Optimize resource utilization by implementing an effective leadership group, supervising and motivating hourly and salaried employees, and analyzing daily reports.
  • Meet key performance indicators and exceed efficiency and performance standards.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production activity reports and respond to information requests from site, division, and corporate teams.
  • Implement and manage a coordinated weekly planned and corrective maintenance schedule with maintenance personnel to maintain reliable equipment and meet production targets.
  • Prepare production schedules for each project and weekly employee schedules to optimize performance.
  • Monitor production processes, equipment downtime, and equipment availability; adjust schedules to manage headcount and payroll expenses.
  • Provide clear communication, on-the-job training, and assistance as needed.
  • Implement and drive continuous improvement through change management.
  • Comply with cost-saving initiatives and identify ways to reduce costs and enhance revenue.
  • Function as part of the management team, align with core values and company policies, meet company goals, and escalate issues requiring further assistance.
  • Plan, participate in, and contribute to internal and external business meetings as needed.
  • Conduct daily production meetings to review prior-day performance, current-day plans, next-day needs, projects, and issues.
  • Walk the facilities daily to follow up on plans, verify execution, ensure conformance to standards, and monitor inventories.
