Withings launches Glucose Resilience score to help users track metabolic wellness at home. Withings is introducing a new metabolic wellness feature designed to help people better understand how everyday lifestyle habits could be influencing their long-term health. The health technology company has announced the rollout of Glucose Resilience, a new score available through its BodyScan 2 connected health station and Withings+ subscription service. Rather than directly measuring blood glucose, the feature combines two existing measurements - electrodermal skin conductance and visceral fat levels - to provide users with an indicator they can follow over time. Withings says the purpose is not to diagnose diabetes, prediabetes or any other medical condition. Instead, Glucose Resilience is intended to provide additional context around metabolic wellness and encourage healthier everyday behaviours. The feature will begin rolling out through the Withings+ app for BodyScan 2 users from 16 September 2026. What is Glucose Resilience? Metabolic health is influenced by numerous factors, including diet, body composition, exercise and sleep. One particular concern is insulin resistance, where the body's cells become less responsive to insulin. It can develop gradually and is associated with prediabetes and an increased risk of subsequently developing type 2 diabetes. Withings' new Glucose Resilience score attempts to give users another way of observing changes associated with their metabolic wellness before potentially using that information to make lifestyle changes. The feature combines electrodermal skin conductance (ESC) with a person's visceral fat level. Visceral fat is the fat stored around internal organs within the abdominal area. Excess visceral fat is associated with a range of metabolic and cardiovascular health risks. Electrodermal skin conductance, meanwhile, measures the ability of the skin to conduct a very small electrical current. By combining the measurements and following changes over time, Withings says users can gain another perspective on their metabolic wellness. Crucially, however, Glucose Resilience is not a blood glucose measurement and should not be treated as a diagnosis of diabetes or prediabetes. Anyone concerned about their blood sugar or diabetes risk should seek appropriate medical advice and testing rather than relying on a consumer wellness score. Using health data to encourage lifestyle changes. Rather than simply presenting another number, Withings is positioning the feature as a tool to encourage healthier habits. Depending on changes in their results, users can consider areas such as diet, physical activity, sleep and weight management. BodyScan 2 already measures a variety of body composition and cardiovascular indicators, allowing the new score to be considered alongside other health information collected within the Withings ecosystem. For example, users can monitor changes in weight and body composition alongside their dietary habits, while activity data can provide additional insight into how regularly they are moving. Sleep information available through compatible Withings products can similarly be used to encourage better sleep routines. The company's ecosystem also includes connected blood pressure monitors, enabling users to monitor blood pressure separately at home. Lifestyle changes can have a significant impact on diabetes risk. There is substantial evidence supporting the importance of lifestyle interventions for people at increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Two major independent randomised studies - the US Diabetes Prevention Program and the Finnish Diabetes Prevention Study - found that structured lifestyle interventions involving weight reduction and regular physical activity reduced progression to type 2 diabetes by approximately 58% among people at high risk. Those findings do not validate Withings' Glucose Resilience score itself, but they do underline the broader principle behind the feature: lifestyle changes can play an important role in metabolic health. A balanced diet, regular exercise, adequate sleep and maintaining a healthy weight are all recognised as important components of a healthy lifestyle and can contribute to reducing the risk of a range of chronic diseases. What else does Withings BodyScan 2 measure? Glucose Resilience joins a growing range of health measurements available through BodyScan 2. The connected health station combines a scale with sensors contained within its handle and is designed to provide detailed body composition, cardiovascular and metabolic information at home. Its body composition system operates across 13 frequencies and provides six-zone body composition measurements, enabling users to examine their body composition in greater detail than simply monitoring overall weight. Other measurements and indicators include visceral fat, blood oxygen, cardiac age and blood pressure data. BodyScan 2 has also received CE marking for atrial fibrillation detection. Results can be displayed on a colour screen incorporated into the device's handle as well as being tracked through the Withings app. The BodyScan 2 is priced at £449.95, with some features - including Glucose Resilience - requiring Withings+. Connected health moves beyond weight tracking. The arrival of Glucose Resilience reflects a wider shift in consumer health technology. The first generation of connected scales primarily concentrated on weight and basic body composition. Increasingly, manufacturers are attempting to turn home health devices into platforms capable of tracking a much wider collection of biomarkers. Withings, which launched its first connected scale in 2009, says its ecosystem can now measure more than 90 biomarkers across products including scales, watches, sleep monitors and connected blood pressure monitors. The company says its products are used by around 12 million people worldwide as well as healthcare centres and research institutions. For consumers, however, the increasing sophistication of home health technology also makes understanding what individual measurements actually mean increasingly important. A wellness score can provide useful information about trends and potentially encourage positive behavioural changes, but it is not necessarily equivalent to a clinically established diagnostic test. That distinction is particularly important when dealing with conditions such as diabetes, where appropriate blood testing and medical assessment remain essential. Withings has launched StethO Sense, a new service within its Withings+ premium membership that provides AI-powered heart and lung sound analysis for BeamO device users. The service, powered by eMurmur and StethoMe, enables families to analyse heart and lung recordings at home with results available in seconds. StethO Sense offers unlimited analyses for Withings+ members. Heart recordings are taken at four standard positions, whilst lung recordings are taken at up to eight positions depending on age. BeamO guides users through the process with anatomical diagrams. The service complements Withings' existing Cardio Check-Up service, which provides cardiologist ECG reviews within 24 hours. Results from StethO Sense are not diagnostic and are intended to be shared with healthcare professionals. The goal is not to replace a medical consultation but to provide users with more information between appointments, enabling them to share recordings more easily with a healthcare professional. BeamO gains automatic analysis of its digital stethoscope. Presented by Withings as a portable health device for the entire family, BeamO combines multiple instruments in a single compact unit: thermometer, pulse oximeter, one-lead ECG, and digital stethoscope. StethO Sense specifically leverages the latter. Previously, BeamO allowed recording heart and lung sounds for storage or transmission to a healthcare provider. With StethO Sense, these recordings can now be automatically analyzed by artificial intelligence in seconds. From the Withings+ app, users select a cardiac or pulmonary recording and initiate its analysis. BeamO assists them with device positioning using an anatomical diagram. For the heart, four standard positions are suggested. For the lungs, Withings recommends six positions for children under 12 years old and eight for those 12 years and older. AI eMurmur searches for heart murmurs. To analyze heart sounds, Withings has partnered with eMurmur, a company specializing in artificial intelligence applied to auscultation. Its eMurmur Heart AI system analyzes recordings made with BeamO and categorizes them into three groups: absence of murmur, benign murmur, or abnormal murmur. The analysis also provides heart rate and a confidence score. Withings states that several blind prospective clinical studies have shown sensitivity and specificity of approximately 90% for detecting pathological murmurs. The eMurmur Heart AI technology also holds CE marking as a Class IIa medical device. It is designed for both healthcare professionals and individuals and can be used across all ages, from newborns to adults. However, these capabilities do not mean that a result obtained from BeamO constitutes a diagnosis on its own. Withings emphasizes the complementary nature of StethO Sense alongside an examination by a healthcare provider. StethoMe analyzes wheezes and crackles in the lungs. The other component of StethO Sense focuses on the lungs. Withings relies on the technology developed by StethoMe, which specializes in automated analysis of lung sounds. The algorithm can search for various respiratory sounds such as wheezes, rhonchi, fine crackles, or coarse crackles. It also analyzes respiratory rate, heart rate, and the ratio between inspiration and expiration durations. Withings cites an observational study in which an AI-assisted stethoscope identified moderate to severe crises with over 92% accuracy in children and 81% in adults. Like eMurmur, StethoMe also holds CE marking as a Class IIa medical device. Withings targets parents specifically. While StethO Sense can be used by the entire family, Withings strongly emphasizes its appeal to parents. The aim is to allow regular recording of pulmonary sounds in children during a cold, flu, or when unusual breathing occurs. This feature can also help track certain respiratory sounds in asthmatic children or monitor their evolution over time. However, caution is required regarding the interpretation of these results: identifying a wheeze or crackle does not equate to determining the cause of the symptom. In its statement, Withings presents this data as supplementary information that can then be communicated to the healthcare professional. This distinction is critical for a product that bridges consumer devices with functions traditionally associated with clinical examination. Heart murmurs can also be monitored over time. The same principle applies to cardiac monitoring. Instead of merely describing a symptom several days after its onset, a user can store recordings taken at different times and then present them during a consultation. Withings also envisions StethO Sense for adults wanting to monitor their heart health, as well as for athletes. The company mentions, for example, the relevance of auscultation in assessing certain cardiac conditions, while implicitly reminding users that detection via the app should lead, when needed, to additional medical evaluation. StethO Sense and Cardio Check-Up serve different purposes. Withings+ previously offered Cardio Check-Up, a service allowing an ECG to be examined by a cardiologist. The two functions remain quite distinct. Cardio Check-Up relies on a human interpretation of the ECG by a cardiologist within 24 hours, with up to four analyses per year. StethO Sense, on the other hand, offers automated and unlimited analyses through artificial intelligence of heart and lung sounds. Thus, a user can regularly perform auscultations with BeamO, then convey some results to their doctor or utilize Cardio Check-Up when a specific ECG analysis is desired. Withings is also preparing BeamO Pro for healthcare professionals. The technology will not be limited to the general public. Withings announces its integration into BeamO Pro, a version intended for healthcare professionals and care teams. The manufacturer specifically mentions nursing homes as a potential environment for use. The goal is to facilitate a standardized initial analysis of heart and lung sounds before determining if further examinations are necessary. Withings claims that studies related to AI-assisted auscultation have shown a reduction of 50 to 75% in inappropriate referrals to a cardiologist. Even in its professional version, AI is presented as an aid: the final clinical interpretation and medical decisions remain the responsibility of the professional. StethO Sense will be available only to Withings+ subscribers. StethO Sense will be available starting October 1, 2026, exclusively as part of the Withings+ subscription. BeamO owners who purchased their device before this date will receive a one-month free trial of Withings+. The same trial period will be offered to new buyers of BeamO starting October 1. With StethO Sense, Withings takes a significant step in its strategy: moving from merely allowing users to measure and record health data at home to automatically interpreting those data. The potential is intriguing, especially for long-term monitoring, but the line between personal tracking tools and diagnostic aids also becomes much more important to clarify for users.
