Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Three years of experience in catering, event management, or food services is required.
  • An ability to lead and manage others is required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills are required.
  • An ability to manage multiple events simultaneously is required.
  • Strong customer service skills focused on client satisfaction are required.
  • An ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, based on event schedules is required.
  • ServSafe Certification is required within 12 months of hire.
Responsibilities
  • Support the day-to-day operations of catering services, including the planning, preparation, and execution of catering events.
  • Assist with planning, organizing, and executing meetings, conferences, banquets, and special University events, ensuring event details meet customer expectations.
  • Coordinate with the culinary team to ensure high-quality food preparation, presentation, and portion control.
  • Oversee the setup and breakdown of catering events, including transportation of food, beverages, and equipment.
  • Collaborate with event coordinators, student organizations, faculty, and other campus departments to meet catering needs.
  • Plan and implement menu updates, events, and special promotions with leadership and peers.
  • Conduct routine operational meetings in the leader’s absence.
  • Directly supervise staff and ensure efficient event service.
  • Train staff on food safety, event execution, customer service standards, and event-specific needs.
  • Interview, hire, orient, and train new employees.
  • Recognize employees and assist with planning work schedules to ensure adequate staffing.
  • Evaluate employee performance, perform disciplinary action up to and including discharge, and attend employee grievances and unemployment hearings as requested.
  • Address client needs and concerns before, during, and after events, and resolve complaints professionally and efficiently.
  • Ensure food safety, sanitation, health regulations, quality standards, and department goals are met.
  • Conduct safety checks of catering equipment and food storage areas.
  • Reduce waste, implement eco-friendly packaging, and source sustainable products whenever possible.
  • Collect quality-control and quality-assurance data for health department and departmental requirements.
  • Stock and organize catering supplies and inventory for upcoming events, monitor inventory levels, and communicate reordering needs.
  • Maintain a clean and organized catering storage area.
  • Monitor event budgets and ensure catering services remain within budget guidelines.
  • Coordinate maintenance of catering equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • An associate degree in Business Management, Hospitality Management, Culinary Arts, or a related field and leadership experience are preferred.
  • Proficiency with catering management software is preferred.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and catering best practices is preferred.
