Requirements
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Construction Management.
  • Have a basic understanding of Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations and construction site safety practices.
  • Be able to assist with safety audits, inspections, and incident reporting.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Suite.
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Be detail-oriented and organized.
  • Be willing to learn and take initiative.
  • Be comfortable working in both office and field environments.
Responsibilities
  • Work on agreed-upon projects throughout the internship process, such as jobsite safety audit walks, updating forms, formal program creation, and training programs, and submit projects in binder or electronic form for review and critique.
  • Complete jobsite safety audits to recognize and correct unsafe conditions and behaviors, and offer corrective and preventive measures in a formal manner for documentation and reference.
  • Give presentations throughout the internship, such as leading a topic at a meeting, orientation, or corporate gathering, and prepare and present an agreed-upon number of presentations, recommended at one per month.
  • Travel to jobsites for operations meetings, job or task safety training, audit purposes, or safety project planning; take notes on observations and important aspects of the experience and outcome, and complete a one-page write-up for the daily log.
  • Complete or assist with accident and incident investigations and write a report of the experience, including pictures and drawings as needed for the formal internship project reference.
  • Keep an up-to-date calendar.
  • Complete a daily log of activities focused on something learned each day, including the name, date, and detailed description of duties and accomplishments.
  • Complete safety audit reports and send them to superintendents for visited jobsites.
  • Complete one Toolbox Talk each week and submit it to the supervisor.
  • Review the JP Cullen safety manual and understand best practices.
  • Attend Monday morning safety meetings, operations plans, plan presentations, and related activities.
