UniCredit to buy back securities-services unit from Societe Generale, document shows. Published on 10/19/2026 at 05:54 pm EDT - Modified on 10/19/2026 at 05:58 pm EDT MILAN, Oct 19 (Reuters) - Italy's second-biggest bank, UniCredit, has signed an agreement to repurchase its securities-services business from French peer Societe Generale, according to a union document seen by Reuters on Monday. The unit, which looks after investors' securities and handles related administrative services, has 54 staff in Milan and Turin, according to the document, which did not provide any financial details of the agreement. Societe Generale bought UniCredit's securities services unit in 2006, striking a long-term partnership to handle those services for the Italian bank. The supply contract was last renewed in 2017 until 2026. UniCredit is seeking to bring in-house activities it deems strategic, and the transaction is part of that effort, the document said. Handling the securities itself will reduce the need for an external supplier and improve use of the business' data, UniCredit and Societe Generale did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The growth underscores increasing interest in euro-denominated stablecoins, as highlighted by a recent tweet from @tokenterminal. Inside the move. The broader crypto market is currently showing mixed signals, with varying momentum across major assets. However, Circle's performance stands out, particularly in the euro stablecoin sector. The recent increase in market cap reflects a growing demand for stablecoins as traders and investors seek more stable alternatives amid market volatility. This trend could correlate with Bitcoin's dominance and broader market cycles, indicating a shift towards more stable assets during uncertain times. Quick take. * Circle's market cap increased by $4.8 million over the past week. Schuman Financial added $2.2 million during the same period. Societe Generale's market cap growth reached $1.3 million. This growth indicates a rising interest in euro stablecoins. Circle's leadership may influence further investment trends in the stablecoin market. Token metrics. Currently, Circle's trading volume stands at $0, highlighting a period of thin flow. This lack of volume may suggest that the recent upward movement in market cap is primarily driven by strategic positioning rather than active trading. As market participants assess the implications of these movements, they may look to stablecoins as a hedge against volatility in other parts of the crypto market. ...
