Requirements
  • At least 10 years of experience in industrial design and/or mechanical engineering, with multiple shipped consumer wearables or comparable body-worn products.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating electronics into soft goods or textile products, including apparel, headwear, garments, or wearables with significant fabric content.
  • Deep proficiency in computer-aided design using SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Rhino, or an equivalent tool, as well as rendering using KeyShot or a comparable tool.
  • Strong comfort-engineering capability covering pressure points, weight, thermal considerations, and fit across diverse users, supported by structured wear testing and iteration.
  • Experience driving design for manufacturing, tooling, and quality with overseas contract manufacturers.
Responsibilities
  • Own industrial design and mechanical engineering for the wearable end-to-end, from sketching through computer-aided design, prototyping, tooling, and design for manufacturing with overseas contract manufacturers.
  • Lead the integration of electronics into soft goods, including flex printed circuit board packaging, rigid-island placement, textile-to-rigid transitions, weight distribution, thermal management, and serviceability.
  • Define and enforce comfort engineering, including pressure mapping, weight balance, skin-contact thermal limits, breathability, fit across head sizes and hair types, and long-wear validation.
  • Drive the design language and material story for the brand's physical products, including fabrics, seams, transitions, and how the device announces itself or fades into the background.
  • Partner with the electrical engineering lead on rigid-island layout, antenna keep-outs, and electrode contact pressure, and with audio and camera leads on acoustic ports, microphone mesh, lens windows, and pod integration.
  • Partner with the reliability lead on drop, ingress, thermal, and ergonomic robustness.
  • Ship the product by the end of the year and build and lead the product design function as industrial design and mechanical engineering capability scales.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with high-density biocompatible interfaces, dry electrode arrays, or other dense sensor-to-skin integrations.
  • Experience with soft goods sourcing and textile engineering, including knit beanies, technical apparel, or woven goods.
  • Experience with optical windows, acoustic ports, or sensor windows in consumer products.
  • Experience with biocompatibility, skin contact, and dermatological testing for body-worn products.
  • A point of view about what makes a wearable beautiful rather than gadget-like.

Sabi designs everyday products that are easier to use and more attractive, targeting items people rely on daily such as walking canes, pill boxes, and bathroom hardware. Their approach centers on user-friendly, aesthetically pleasing designs that improve comfort and function. How the products work: they emphasize ergonomic handles, simple mechanisms, reliable materials, and intuitive use—so users can operate items with less effort and more confidence. How Sabi differs from competitors: they prioritize combining practicality with beauty, moving away from plain, uninspired, hard-to-use designs toward objects people actually enjoy using. Their goal is to make daily tools smarter and more delightful to use, so everyday life feels smoother and more enjoyable.
