$1bn! Lineage launches legal claim against solar firms over Los Angeles warehouse PV fire. PVTIME - Lineage, a global cold storage infrastructure operator, has initiated civil proceedings in the Los Angeles Superior Court against solar developer Altus Power and its contracted service provider, Pearce Services LLC. Lineage is seeking more than $1 billion in compensation. The legal action stems from severe property damage caused by a fire involving a rooftop solar installation at the company's refrigerated warehouse facility in Los Angeles. Lineage attributes the incident to negligent operational and maintenance practices by the two solar firms. On 17 June, a major fire broke out at Lineage's 46,500-square-metre cold storage site in Boyle Heights, which was storing approximately 85 million pounds of frozen food stock. The blaze burned continuously for eight days and prompted a local state of emergency. Remedial clearance and restoration work lasted two months, concluding on 5 September, with Lineage incurring costs of over $100 million. While local fire authorities have yet to publish the results of their investigation, Lineage's initial disclosures confirm that the fire occurred while Altus Power was carrying out an inspection of the site's rooftop photovoltaic system. Court filings outline a history of unresolved safety hazards on the solar array, including a minor fire at the same facility in August 2024. Following this initial incident, Lineage required upgraded safety protocols prior to reactivating the system, leading Altus to commission Pearce Services to carry out technical adjustments. By May 2026, more than 200 connector faults had been identified across the PV installation, including defective components in the area where the subsequent major fire originated. On 11 June, Lineage issued formal written guidance prohibiting system energisation before the completion of mandatory safety tests. Nonetheless, the defendants reactivated and operated the rooftop solar system between 5 and 17 June without completing the required safety verifications, and the catastrophic fire broke out during on-site work conducted by Pearce Services staff. The litigation also alleges that Pearce Services installed thousands of unspecified jumper connections to adapt incompatible electrical equipment, creating widespread latent failure risks throughout the solar system. Lineage's chief executive, Greg Lehmkuhl, has confirmed that there is documented evidence linking the fire directly to faults in the solar system, and has criticised the defendants for their lack of response during the community emergency. Altus Power and its subsidiary have formally refuted all allegations, stating that Lineage's claims contain inaccurate information and represent an attempt to evade corporate liability. The firm has suggested that the fire may have been caused by emissions from materials stored in the warehouse rather than by failure of the PV equipment, and intends to contest the claim in court. Pearce Services has also denied any wrongdoing, stating that ongoing official investigations mean it is inappropriate to make premature judgements on the cause of the fire. The company has committed to fully cooperating with the relevant authorities and mounting a robust legal defence. No final judicial ruling on liability has been issued as the litigation remains ongoing.
Lineage sues Altus Power and Pearce Services for ignoring safety warnings and causing Boyle Heights fire. September 10, 2026 14:43 ET | Source: Lineage, Inc. LOS ANGELES, Sept. 10, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - Lineage, Inc. (NASDAQ: LINE) today filed a civil lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court against Altus Power, Inc., a commercial solar operator, and its contractor Pearce Services LLC, a subsidiary of CBRE Group, alleging that their negligence caused the June 17, 2026, fire that destroyed Lineage's 500,000 square-foot cold storage facility in the Boyle Heights neighborhood in Los Angeles. Key points from the suit: * Altus and Pearce's negligence started the fire. They abandoned Lineage to clean up the site on their own and ignored the Boyle Heights community. This was a solar fire, not a warehouse fire. * Altus was and is the owner of the solar array, and this was not Altus' first fire at the facility. In August 2024, the same solar array sparked a smaller fire on the facility's roof. Following that incident, Lineage called for enhanced safety measures before the array could be re-energized, and Altus retained Pearce to reconfigure the array. By May 2026, more than 200 connector failures had been identified across the array, including in the section where the June fire would begin. * Altus and Pearce disregarded Lineage's written safety directives and re-energized a defective rooftop solar array before required safety checks were completed - days before the fire. * On June 11, 2026, Lineage notified Altus in writing that the system should not be re-energized until critical safety tests were completed. Altus and Pearce deliberately ignored those instructions. Beginning on June 5 and continuing through June 17, the array was energized without completing the required testing and before all work on the array had been completed. The fire ignited on June 17 while Pearce personnel were working on the energized system. * When the community needed direct assistance and the site cleaned up, Altus and Pearce did nothing. Lineage has a longstanding track record of operating with the highest degree of integrity backed by the Company's commitments to the communities and customers it serves. Since the fire began, Lineage has provided community support including direct financial assistance, relocation, air conditioners, air purifiers and grocery cards. With the cleanup completed, Lineage's commitment to the community of Boyle Heights continues, and the Company remains dedicated to ongoing and transparent communication with neighbors and local community organizations to understand ongoing needs. "This lawsuit is about Altus and Pearce starting this fire and then being nowhere to be found when the community needed help," "This lawsuit is about Altus and Pearce starting this fire and then being nowhere to be found when the community needed help," said Greg Lehmkuhl, President & CEO of Lineage. "From the moment it started, Lineage stood alone in supporting remediation and cleanup efforts for a neighborhood impacted through absolutely no fault of our own. The record is clear: this was a solar fire. Cold storage is not a risk to communities - it is an essential service that lowers food costs, expands food access and creates jobs. We are grateful to each and every worker who contributed over 210,000 hours to complete this unprecedented and complex cleanup in record time. We want to thank the community of Boyle Heights and East LA for their patience during this process. With the cleanup completed, now is the right time to pursue accountability and recover the substantial losses we incurred as a result of Altus's and Pearce's negligence." About Lineage, Inc. Worldleaks ransomware attack targets Pearce Services. March 21, 2026 Summary. On March 20, 2026, the ransomware group worldleaks claimed responsibility for a cyberattack against Pearce Services, a key player in the USA. The group has threatened to leak sensitive data unless negotiation terms are met. Incident Report. | Field | Details | | Target | Pearce Services | | Domain | N/A | | Country | USA | | Attacking Group | worldleaks | | Date Reported | March 20, 2026 | | Threat Actor Statement"N/A" | Recommended security actions. Ransomware attacks are increasingly targeting both enterprise and mid-sized organizations across all sectors. The following steps are critical to reduce impact and prevent future incidents: * Monitor continuously: Use DeXpose's dark web and infostealer monitoring platform to detect breached credentials, leaked databases, and threat actor chatter in near real-time - before damage spreads internally. * Conduct a compromise assessment: Immediately initiate a full incident review to determine how attackers infiltrated your network, what data may have been exfiltrated, and whether any persistence mechanisms remain active. * Validate your backups: Ensure that your backups are current, encrypted, and stored offline. Utilize immutable backup solutions to defend against ransomware encryption and deletion attempts. * Apply threat intelligence: Integrate external threat feeds, including DeXpose-provided indicators of compromise (IOCs), into your SIEM or XDR platforms for real-time alerting and correlation. * Harden employee defenses: Run phishing simulations and enforce multi-factor authentication (MFA) across all access points. Attackers often exploit weak or reused credentials sourced from the dark web. * Engage professional response teams: Involve cybersecurity incident response experts, threat analysts, and legal counsel before initiating any dialogue with ransomware groups or ransom brokers.
