Responsibilities
- Support organizational goals and objectives for safe, quality patient care, patient satisfaction, infection prevention and control, and successful Joint Commission and Department of Health surveys.
- Assist with coordinating inpatient infection prevention and control activities in collaboration with medical staff across healthcare facilities within the system.
- Assist with Infection Control Program processes and goals under the supervision of infection prevention and control leadership and team members, in collaboration with the System Medical Director for Infection Control.
- Coordinate and participate in developing and implementing infection control programs and activities in assigned areas and departments.
- Identify, recommend, and implement changes to improve infection prevention and control practices, and provide education to ensure the Infection Control Program is effective.
- Coordinate rounds in patient care areas and recommend changes to patient care and department-specific education about infection control practices based on information collected or observed during rounds.
- Coordinate implementation and education about the Infection Control Plan as assigned, and assist the System Administrative Director for Infection Control with hospital-wide infection control activities based on the plan.
- Serve as a resource person for infection control initiatives at the respective campus.
- Identify and record hospital-acquired infections in accordance with Act 52 requirements.
- Understand and communicate Joint Commission and other governing-body requirements related to infection control and the health system's compliance, and actively participate in surveys.
- Develop, review, and revise infection control policies and procedures after consultation with leadership.
- Participate in surveillance activities to identify unusual epidemic situations, evaluate the impact of new procedures or equipment, and assess how the infection prevention and control program affects patient-care delivery.
- Collaborate with community health agencies and other institutions to coordinate infection prevention and control services, and assist public health authorities in investigating reportable infections as required.
- Participate in continuing education programs and health-related associations to expand professional knowledge, maintain expertise, and promote the interests of the health system.
- Develop and maintain expertise in Centers for Disease Control and Prevention National Healthcare Safety Network reporting criteria and requirements.
- Conduct concurrent and retrospective medical-record reviews, including physician and nursing progress notes, laboratory culture data, radiology and imaging reports, and surgery reports, to identify potential hospital-acquired infections.
- Perform work in a clinical environment and satisfy job-specific obligations while complying with organizational policies and procedures.
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience in infection prevention and with Joint Commission and Department of Health surveys is ideal.
- Previous working knowledge of epidemiology and infectious disease principles is preferred.
