Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited school of radiologic technology.
- At least 2 years of modality-specific work experience.
- Skill in routine neuro, musculoskeletal, and chest/abdomen scans, arterial/venous delayed scans, and port access/de-access.
- Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) as a radiographer (R).
- Licensure from the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association.
- Ability to produce very high-quality special imaging with little supervision.
- Current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or an American Red Cross CPR/AED equivalent.
- Ability to maintain and renew ARRT, state license, Basic Life Support, PPD, respirator fit test, and point-of-care training.
- Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer literacy.
- Ability to work overtime as required.
- Ability to learn and use new processes, tools, and equipment as required.
- Ability to perform the physical functions of the job, including standing, walking, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds unassisted, moving patients up to approximately 350 pounds with assistance, and meeting the stated vision, hearing, dexterity, mobility, and respirator-use requirements.
Responsibilities
- Perform radiologic examinations timely, accurately, and safely for radiologist interpretation.
- Ensure schedules remain on track, communicate exam delays, and route completed exams to the picture archiving and communication system for interpretation.
- Perform examinations according to protocol using appropriate anatomical markers and positioning aids, with images free of artifacts and motion.
- Screen patients for identification, history, indications, contraindications, and safety requirements.
- Review schedules and patient records 3 to 5 days before appointments for exam and facility appropriateness and contraindications.
- Work with radiologists, referring physicians, and clinics to resolve issues before patients arrive.
- Prepare the radiology suite and adjacent clinical and common areas to receive patients and visitors.
- Ensure equipment is available and operational; perform quality control according to American College of Radiology and manufacturer standards; report equipment errors or downtime.
- Order and stow medical supplies, clean exam and patient areas, and clean equipment according to manufacturer, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, and Medical University of South Carolina infection-control guidelines.
- Identify workflow and work-area barriers and participate in safety improvement efforts.
- Use the Shield reporting system to report safety concerns and participate in group meetings with comments and suggestions.
- Address patient-care issues and involve the appropriate supervisor or care-team member when necessary.
