- At least 5 years of experience as a Systems Engineer or Systems Administrator with direct network administration responsibility.
- Demonstrated experience with NIST, ISO 27001, and/or SOC 2 frameworks.
- Strong technical proficiency with Windows Server, Linux including Ubuntu and CentOS, Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, Group Policy, Microsoft 365, VMware, and Hyper-V.
- Strong networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, subnetting, routing, VLANs, DNS/DHCP, NAT, firewalls, and VPNs.
- Hands-on experience with cellular modems and industrial gateways, including Cradlepoint, Sierra Wireless, Digi, Teltonika, and Peplink, as well as carrier and SIM management.
- Experience with monitoring and alerting tools such as PRTG, SolarWinds, Datadog, Zabbix, and Grafana.
- Experience with backup and disaster recovery platforms such as Veeam and Datto.
- Familiarity with industrial protocols and IT/OT segmentation.
- Strong analytical and communication skills; organization and attention to detail.
- Willingness to travel to office, project, and client sites, including field visits to operating microgrid sites.
- Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and perform evening or nighttime system migration tasks when required.
- Design, deploy, and maintain server, storage, and virtualized infrastructure across cloud and on-premises environments.
- Own identity and access management end to end, including onboarding and offboarding, role-based permissions, multifactor authentication, privileged access, backups, and audit logging.
- Apply patches and updates and maintain system health and availability.
- Own access governance and least-privilege design.
- Administer endpoint detection and response, security information and event management, mobile device management, and vulnerability management tools.
- Extend security controls into operational technology through segmentation and secure remote access.
- Support SOC 2 and ISO 27001 audit readiness and incident response.
- Provide Tier 1 through Tier 3 support across Windows, macOS, Linux, virtualization, and cloud environments.
- Manage Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and Azure, including virtual machines, storage, identity, and conditional access.
- Implement cloud backup and disaster recovery.
- Design and maintain switching, routing, VLANs, firewalls, and VPNs.
- Configure cellular modems and gateways for microgrid site connectivity, including carrier, APN, and SIM provisioning, NAT, and failover.
- Build secure information technology and operational technology remote access paths.
- Support microgrid controllers, programmable logic controllers, human-machine interfaces, supervisory control and data acquisition systems, inverters, and meters.
- Troubleshoot protocol-level issues involving Modbus, DNP3, MQTT, SNMP, and BACnet.
- Partner with the controls team on on-site commissioning and operational technology patch and firmware management.
- Build and tune monitoring and alerting across IT and OT for health, connectivity, data flow, backups, and security events.
- Create dashboards and reduce mean time to detect and mean time to repair.
- Maintain system and network diagrams, standard operating procedures, configuration baselines, and runbooks.
- Generate performance and capacity reports.
- Operational technology, industrial control systems, or supervisory control and data acquisition experience in energy, utilities, renewables, or industrial or building systems.
- Network+, Security+, CCNA, Azure Administrator, MCSA/MCSE, RHCSA, GICSP, or similar certifications.
- Knowledge of Zero Trust and NIST 800-82 or IEC 62443.

Scale recently secured a contract for a multi-hundred megawatt on-site energy system for a hyperscale customer, making it amongst the few companies building energy systems for off-grid data centres. Backed by equity partner EQT, Scale plans to deploy multi-gigawatts of power generation capacity. The acquisition addresses multi-year delays in utility interconnection, with Scale's data centre team focused on delivering gigawatts of energy centres for hyperscalers and operators.
