Requirements
  • A nurse practitioner must hold an MN, MSN, DNP, PhD, or DNS degree in nursing.
  • A physician assistant must graduate from an accredited physician assistant program.
  • A nurse practitioner must hold an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license in Florida.
  • Nurse practitioner licensure applicants after July 1, 2006 must have national advanced certification from an approved nursing specialty board.
  • A nurse practitioner must maintain current Basic Life Support certification.
  • A physician assistant must maintain current physician assistant licensure in Florida.
  • A physician assistant must maintain current Basic Life Support or healthcare certification.
Responsibilities
  • Assess patients’ physical and psychosocial status through interviews, health histories, physical examinations, and diagnostic studies.
  • Recognize deviations from normal physical assessment findings and collaborate on treatment plans.
  • Implement appropriate management based on laboratory results, physical assessments, diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and admission and discharge care in accordance with written practice protocols.
  • Initiate actions that facilitate therapeutic plans consistent with patients’ continuing healthcare needs.
  • Provide age-appropriate patient care.
  • Provide a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and their families.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve patient care issues to improve patient care.
  • Dictate and document accurately and promptly.
  • Maintain preventive health services.
  • Conduct or participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds.
  • Perform detailed histories and physical examinations and document inpatient histories and physicals and discharge summaries; obtain review and countersignature from a supervising medical staff member within 24 hours.
  • Write or dictate reports and progress notes in the medical record.
  • Triage patients.
  • Share clinical expertise with professional and support personnel and collaborate with other healthcare disciplines to ensure continuity and quality of care.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance consistent with applicable policies and standards.
  • Comply with Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Act as a role model and resource person for staff.
  • Participate in reviewing and revising policies and procedures.
  • Comply with regulatory and accrediting agency standards.
  • Establish relationships with professionals from other health-related groups in the community.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with physicians, employees, patients, families, and diverse populations.
