Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Develop methods and procedures for the most efficient and economical routing and movement of customers' freight in an error-free manner and within established service center budget guidelines.
  • Utilize the T.E.A.M. System for pickup-and-delivery and dock operations, as well as the trailer utilization report, to maximize company assets, equipment, and personnel capabilities.
  • Prepare and compile daily, weekly, and monthly production and service records and measure conformance to stated service center objectives.
  • Observe, inspect, and measure service center personnel proficiencies to determine changes in work practices or procedures necessary to improve overall service center operations.
  • Review logs and reports and confer with shift supervisory personnel to determine scheduling, production, and administrative support function requirements.
  • Maintain internal and external customer relations consistent with company policies.
  • Assist in the training, development, and evaluation of supervisory and production personnel work performance and recommend or initiate personnel records documentation.
  • Recruit prospective subordinate employees, including screening, qualifying, and interviewing, in conjunction with the Service Center Manager.
  • Inspect service center facilities for conformance to prescribed safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Inspect the service center for security, including locked bay doors and tractors, properly stored keys, and locked freight in appointment trailers.
  • Handle routine maintenance and repairs and initiate requisitions for corrective actions through the Service Center Manager.
  • Work closely with the Line Coordinator to plan and implement line-haul schedules and ensure consistent attainment of on-time service performance requirements.
  • Confer with line-haul, sales, maintenance, and claims departments to coordinate service center activities.
  • Issue directives to subordinates to coordinate the movement of expedited, late, or special-circumstance freight.
  • Assist in investigating job-related accidents and injuries, ensure timely and accurate report preparation, and coordinate corrective actions with the Director of Safety.
  • Apply company safety practices, including Department of Transportation, Environmental Protection Agency, Interstate Commerce Commission, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration rules and regulations, and ensure worker compliance.
  • Participate in the Controlled Substance Testing Program in accordance with minimum Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations for pre-employment, random reasonable-cause, and post-accident testing.
  • Assist in preparing and conducting regular service center meetings to inform supervisory, staff, and production/service personnel about service center performance, company trends, sales and marketing plans, and individual accomplishments and performance.
  • Coordinate and facilitate company- and service-center-sponsored Total Quality Management Continuous Improvement Processes and handle special assignments as directed.
  • Perform administrative and operational duties in an office and dock environment, including standing and walking for extended periods, pushing or pulling equipment, operating material-handling equipment, and occasionally assisting with physical dock tasks such as handling freight and related materials.
