Amentum expands defence and space operations at Colorado Springs' Catalyst Campus

Three industrial stocks under $50: Amentum, Intuitive Machines and ZIM

Three industrial stocks trading below $50 stand out this October: Amentum, Intuitive Machines, and ZIM Integrated Shipping Services. Each has different strengths and risks. Amentum booked more than $400 million in advanced nuclear awards and over $1 billion in classified defence awards in its fiscal third quarter. Backlog reached $48.2 billion, though only $6.2 billion is funded. Free cash flow rose to $135 million, but gross debt is about $3.9 billion. Intuitive Machines' second-quarter revenue more than quadrupled to $206 million, and backlog rose to $1.8 billion. It still lost $62.8 million in the quarter. ZIM raised its 2026 adjusted EBITDA guidance to $2.7 billion to $3 billion. Shareholders would receive $35 per share in the proposed Hapag-Lloyd acquisition, which faces regulatory uncertainty in Israel.

Amentum opens Global Nuclear hub in Tennessee.

Amentum opens Global Nuclear hub in Tennessee. Amentum has opened its Global Nuclear headquarters in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, housing its Nuclear Center of Excellence and serving as a hub for the company's international nuclear operations. "The opening of our Global Nuclear Headquarters represents a monumental step forward for our business and our industry," said Mark Whitney, president of Amentum's Energy & Environment division. "By centralizing our global nuclear operations in Oak Ridge, we are leveraging strong local partnerships to deliver increased energy capacity to meet the electricity demand of the people and businesses across the U.S. This facility empowers our team of experts to deliver next-generation nuclear innovation, and it builds directly upon the strong operational foundation we've established in the region through our Amentum-led UCOR partnership while contributing directly to regional economic growth." The hub employs over 150 subject matter experts working on innovative engineering, technology solutions and advanced energy capabilities. The facility strengthens Amentum's footprint in east Tennessee, where it already serves as the lead partner in Energy Department's United Cleanup Oak Ridge. The company also launched the Amentum Nuclear Scholars Program, which establishes a synchronized scholarship pipeline between Roane State Community College and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The partnership is headlined by a 5-year investment from Amentum totaling $500,000 to develop curriculum and scholarships for a talent pipeline for nuclear energy demands. Combined with other Amentum-led STEM sponsorships and donations in the Oak Ridge community, total student support for these two academic institutions exceeds $1 million, the company said. "By launching the Amentum Nuclear Scholars Program alongside our new headquarters, we are directly investing in the local student talent who will pioneer the future of advanced energy and infrastructure solutions," Whitney said. The educational pipeline will launch its first student cohort stateside in late 2026. "This partnership paves the way for students to gain the educational foundation necessary to excel as future leaders in the nuclear industry," said UTK Tickle College of Engineering Dean Matthew Mench, the Wayne T. Davis dean's chair of the college. "Through the financial support from Amentum and practical internship experiences, TCE students will be prepared to step directly into high-demand roles that will positively impact our community, state and country." Amentum hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening with its CEO John Heller, U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN-03) and local elected leaders and school officials. "By partnering with Amentum, we are opening doors for students to start right here in their community and graduate onto a global stage," said Dr. Chris Whaley, Roane State Community College president. "The Amentum Nuclear Scholars Program removes the financial hurdles that often halt a student's momentum, providing a direct, supported pathway from our classrooms straight into high-wage, high-impact careers." Amentum opens global nuclear headquarters in Oak Ridge, employs 2,200 in East Tennessee

Amentum, a Fortune 500 company, has opened a new global nuclear headquarters in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The Virginia-based firm employs 2,200 workers in East Tennessee and partners with Jacobs and Honeywell to operate United Cleanup Oak Ridge, a major environmental cleanup contractor for the Department of Energy. The company's nuclear projects include supporting a South African reactor and decommissioning Japan's Fukushima Daiichi power plant. Amentum chose Oak Ridge for its nuclear centre due to the area's support for nuclear technology and emerging private nuclear ventures. CEO John Heller cited increasing electricity demand from AI as a growth driver for the nuclear industry. The company announced the Amentum Nuclear Scholars Program, connecting Roane State Community College and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville to develop the local nuclear workforce.

Another nuclear company chooses Oak Ridge for headquarters as industry continues to grow. Posted: Oct 8, 2026 / 06:41 PM EDT Updated: Oct 8, 2026 / 06:41 PM EDT OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (WATE) - A company called Amentum is the latest nuclear company to move its headquarters in Oak Ridge. Amentum has around 50,000 employees in more than 70 countries. The new facility will serve as the central hub for Amentum's global nuclear operations, bringing together more than 150 nuclear experts in the process. "Oak Ridge is the epicenter for the nuclear resurgence in the United States, which is a really important imperative for all of us: the need for electricity, the need for new energy, and nuclear has to be a part of that. It really does. And so, we're excited about being here to support that resurgence," said Mark Whitney, president of the Amentum Energy & Environment business. "The community here is really special," he continued. "The partnership in this community, and I lived here before from 2012 to 2014, so I saw it firsthand. [...] The partnership between the community leaders, government, industry, regulators, and elected officials- state, local, federal, and the government- is really unique." Congressman Chuck Fleischmann explained that the company is a world-class leader in legacy cleanup, which means they clean up legacy nuclear sites in places like Oak Ridge or Los Alamos that were contaminated during World War II and the Cold War. He continued that as more companies chose to come to Oak Ridge, legacy cleanups open more land for use. "We're cleaning these up for these affected communities. The great thing about it is they're great-paying jobs. Our wonderful union workers in all the trades are getting good-paying jobs here. We're cleaning up the environment. And most importantly, when we clean up the environment here, we build on that environment. Tennessee is, now largely because of my efforts in Congress, the number one nuclear state in the country," said Fleishmann. Amentum also announced new investments with the University of Tennessee and Roane State Community College to support scholarships and strengthen the pipeline for high-demand nuclear jobs during the ribbon-cutting. Whitney explained that their goal with the Amentum Global Nuclear Scholars Program is to help develop the next generation of workers for the nuclear industry. "An important part of it is the practical, in-field, hands-on experience that we will be providing the students as they go through the process and go through their education, including internships with Amentum," said Whitney. He continued that the internships will not just be in Oak Ridge, but also at any of their sites across the world. "And so, opportunities to work on some really interesting things and have different experiences and hopefully bring that back to Oak Ridge as we kind of continue on this path to nuclear power expansion."
