South Africa expansion might change the case for investing in Equinix stock.

South Africa expansion might change the case for investing in Equinix stock. October 08, 2026 * Equinix recently presented at the Yotta 2026 conference in Las Vegas, where Senior Director of Global Design Greg Metcalf outlined the group's approach to data center design and deployment. * The company is also active in South Africa's expanding colocation market, where rising cloud, AI and digitalization demand is drawing capital alongside government incentives. * We will now examine how Equinix's investment narrative is shaped by its South African data center push and its focus on AI ready infrastructure. Seize the AI infrastructure momentum around Equinix and scan a curated field of potential beneficiaries with the 91 AI infrastructure stocks. Equinix investment narrative recap. For you to own Equinix, you need to believe that its large build program can keep converting AI-heavy demand into long-term recurring cash flows without compressing returns. The Yotta 2026 presentation supports that view, since it underlines an ongoing design focus on dense, AI-ready sites in power-constrained markets. As a near-term catalyst, execution on that 600 MW development pipeline and progress toward 1 GW under production look more important than this single conference appearance. The key risk remains on the supply side. Grid access, skilled construction labor and permitting all have the potential to slow builds or squeeze project economics. That matters for a business carrying meaningful debt and a rich 66.4x P/E multiple. If construction and financing costs increase more than expected, the spread between target returns in the low to mid-20% range and the cost of capital could narrow. The Yotta 2026 session helps link Equinix's broader development story with the push into South Africa's colocation market. Management is talking publicly about AI-oriented design at the same time the region is drawing capital on the back of cloud demand, government support and enterprise digitalization. For investors, that ties directly to the plan to deploy US$5 billion to US$7 billion per year in new projects from 2027 to 2029. That spending plan is a core catalyst because it is intended to turn Equinix's roughly 3 GW of designed power into higher recurring revenue and funds from operations over time. The same build cycle carries clear execution risks. Power constraints, local opposition or higher build costs in markets such as South Africa could limit how much of those targeted low to mid-20% cash-on-cash returns ultimately appear in earnings and cash flow. Equinix's current analyst story points to revenues of US$13.5b and earnings of US$2.3b by 2029, based on an assumed 10.8% yearly revenue growth rate and an increase in earnings of about US$0.8b from US$1.5b today. Uncover why Equinix's fair value indicates a 20% potential upside to its current price that could narrow quickly. Exploring other perspectives. The three fair value estimates from the Simply Wall St Community span roughly US$1,233 to US$1,638 per share, so retail opinions on Equinix already stretch from cautious to optimistic. Before the Yotta 2026 update and South Africa build plans are even factored in, you are seeing how far views can diverge. Supply constraints, political friction and the sheer scale of that US$5b to US$7b annual development program could all shift how these private investors rethink revenue durability and cash generation. Use this spread as a prompt to test your own thesis and explore several alternative viewpoints before deciding where you sit in that range. Explore 2 other Equinix fair value estimates, including one that suggests as much as 59% upside from the current price. Reach your own conclusion. Disagree with existing narratives? DDN names Adam Berlew as Chief Marketing Officer.

DDN names Adam Berlew as Chief Marketing Officer. DDN has named Adam Berlew as Chief Marketing Officer, bringing an experienced enterprise technology marketing executive into its leadership team as the company continues to expand its focus on AI and data infrastructure. Berlew joins DDN from Equinix, where he served as Chief Marketing Officer. His career has included senior marketing and strategy roles at companies including Atlassian, Google, Brocade Communications, Dell, and Equinix. He has worked across cloud, enterprise technology, AI, telecommunications, and digital infrastructure. At Google, Berlew held leadership positions spanning cloud marketing and AI strategy, while at Atlassian he led global digital, enterprise, economy, and platform marketing. He previously served as Vice President of Global Marketing at Equinix before returning to the company as CMO in 2023. In his new role at DDN, Berlew will lead marketing as the company operates across AI infrastructure, high-performance computing, and data intelligence. DDN's platform supports organizations working with large-scale AI workloads, including hyperscalers, cloud providers, enterprises, government organizations, and research institutions. Berlew's appointment comes as the AI infrastructure market increasingly focuses on the relationship between computing capacity, data management, GPU utilization, and the economics of training and inference. DDN has been developing its portfolio around these areas, including its Infinia data platform and infrastructure for AI and high-performance computing. The appointment also adds marketing leadership to DDN's executive structure following several leadership changes in 2026. The company recently appointed Kevin Delane as President and Chief Revenue Officer, with responsibility spanning global revenue strategy, go-to-market execution, marketing, and customer success. For DDN, Berlew's move brings marketing experience from several major enterprise technology companies into an organization increasingly focused on AI data infrastructure. His background across cloud, AI, and enterprise marketing places him within a market where technical positioning and clear communication around increasingly complex infrastructure technologies are becoming important parts of go-to-market strategy.

Equinix data center leak puts backup diesel risks under the spotlight.

Equinix data center leak puts backup diesel risks under the spotlight. An Equinix data center in New Jersey spilled about 5,000 gallons of diesel into a nearby creek. The incident has raised questions about the risks linked to backup fuel systems. Published on: 05 Oct 2026, 10:15 am Updated on: 05 Oct 2026, 10:15 am An Equinix data center in Secaucus, New Jersey, spilled about 5,000 gallons of diesel into a creek connected to the Hackensack River. Reportedly, the spill happened on September 11 at the company's NY2 facility. Equinix said workers spotted the leak from a fuel storage tank and quickly stopped it. Almost immediately, a cleanup team was called in. Officials said the diesel entered a nearby creek but did not reach the Hackensack River. Around 3,500 gallons had been recovered during the cleanup. Officials also said they had not seen any effect on local wildlife. There were different accounts of what caused the leak. Secaucus Mayor Michael Gonnelli first said a computer problem may have caused it. Equinix later said two broken valves used during a routine filtration process were behind the spill. The company said it would provide a full report. In the official statement, the company mentioned, "We regret that this occurred and the concern it caused the community." This was not the first data center fuel spill in the area. A facility in Clifton leaked around 600 gallons in 2017. An Equinix site in North Bergen spilled about 1,800 gallons in 2022. The latest incident was much larger. Data center growth means more fuel. The need for backup power is growing as more data centers are being built. According to figures cited in the report, data center diesel generator capacity grew from 20 gigawatts in 2018 to 55 gigawatts in 2024. The Equinix spill shows that keeping servers running is only one part of data center safety. The systems that protect uptime also need careful handling. A fuel leak may not stop the servers, but it can create a serious problem outside the facility.
