Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a specialized diploma.
  • Knowledge of patient- and family-centered practice, including respectful collaboration with patients, families, and designated care partners in care planning.
  • Cultural awareness and the ability to connect effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques, including the ability to accurately transmit, receive, and interpret ideas, information, and needs.
  • Knowledge of patient assessment and care, including the ability to assess ailments and injuries and implement treatment plans.
  • Knowledge of child and adult education techniques and the ability to identify learning priorities and educate patients and designated care partners about conditions, treatments, medications, and recovery steps.
  • Knowledge of medications used to treat patients and the ability to administer medications and prescribe drugs for continuing treatment outside the hospital.
  • Knowledge of post-discharge needs and the ability to develop discharge plans and arrange follow-up care with patients and care partners.
  • Knowledge of assessment tools and techniques, nursing diagnosis, and clinical judgment to analyze symptoms and develop resolutions using available drugs, facilities, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of health information documentation methods, including recording medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests, and medical results in written or electronic form.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
  • An active Registered Nurse license in Pennsylvania or New Jersey, or the state of practice.
  • Ability to lift and carry 40–50 pounds and perform frequent to continuous standing and walking.
  • Ability to perform role-specific physical activities including kneeling, bending, squatting, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Responsibilities
  • Use the nursing process to develop individualized plans of care with patients and designated care partners that address physical, psychological, emotional, and social needs.
  • Integrate evidence-based practice, clinical expertise, patient and family preferences, and cultural beliefs and values to deliver optimal healthcare.
  • Identify patient and care-partner learning needs and provide understandable, respectful education.
  • Follow established nursing practices and protocols to minimize risk of harm to patients and others.
  • Use information technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate errors, and support ethical decision-making.
  • Use data to monitor care-process outcomes and apply improvement methods to design and test changes that improve patient-care quality and safety.
  • Function within nursing and interprofessional teams to achieve quality patient care through open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision-making.
  • Recognize and incorporate patients’ and families’ preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs into safe, compassionate, and coordinated care.
  • Create an inclusive environment and apply problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Serve as a primary preceptor for appropriate staff members.
  • Participate in hospital- and practice-setting committees, including safety and quality-improvement committees.
  • Give and receive feedback and integrate appropriate changes into practice.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior operating room experience.
  • Circulating and scrubbing experience.
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing, completion of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, or an appropriate advanced degree within three years of hire.
  • At least one year of prior Registered Nurse experience in an acute-care setting.
