Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field of study is required.
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in Grants Administration or Grants Management is required, preferably in an academic environment, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and training.
  • Knowledge of accounting standards, including GAAP, GASB, and CASB, internal control procedures, and Uniform Guidance is required.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and staff management experience is required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and methodologies, including grant administration and budget policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the rules and regulations governing federally sponsored research programs.
  • Knowledge of computer skills, including spreadsheet, database, word processing, and presentation software, as well as standard office equipment.
  • Ability to use grants management software and a standard suite of office software applications.
  • Knowledge of Howard University's policies and procedures related to sponsored research programs.
  • Ability to apply strict confidentiality regarding budget issues.
  • Strong team-building and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with colleagues in Sponsored Program Office Pre-Award and Post-Award administration to support the university's research community.
  • Perform Director-level responsibilities and backfill Post-Award Analyst duties as needed.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of Sponsored Program Office post-award staff to ensure key functions are completed on time.
  • Mediate cost allowability issues and ensure compliance requirements are adhered to during the review and approval of sponsored transactions.
  • Create performance-metric analysis reports for senior management.
  • Manage staffing, including performance evaluations and other human-resources-related matters.
  • Create customer-service metrics and track response times associated with staff performance.
  • Facilitate and lead training sessions on research-administration topics.
  • Manage and monitor operating systems used for financial post-award functions to ensure efficient workflow and internal controls.
  • Support audit activities involving sponsored awards.
  • Work on special projects as requested by the Director and perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Develop policies, procedures, and best practices to improve post-award management.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Support strategic planning and continuous-improvement initiatives.
  • Build effective partnerships with co-workers throughout the university by sharing appropriate information and proactively helping when needed.
  • Provide optimum service to internal and external partners in response to service and information requests.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience using the Workday module or a comparable financial accounting relational-database system is preferred.
  • Experience in Grants Administration or Grants Management in an academic environment is preferred.
