Hapag-Lloyd welcomes 60 new apprentices for shore- and sea-based careers. Posted on August 5, 2026 60 young people are starting their professional careers at Hapag-Lloyd this summer. As Germany's largest maritime training company, Hapag-Lloyd has been investing in young talent for decades. Apprenticeships at Hapag-Lloyd are far more than an entry into working life - for many, they mark the beginning of long-term careers at sea and onshore. Many employees in responsible positions today began their careers with an apprenticeship or dual study program at Hapag-Lloyd. Three of them represent these career paths - and illustrate what lies behind "Your journey, our horizon.": individual careers that grow within the company while contributing to its overall success. 30 apprentices are beginning their maritime careers on board this summer, including 14 ship mechanics and 16 nautical officer assistants. Hapag-Lloyd continues to train apprentices on the Chicago Express and the Kuala Lumpur Express before they transition to container ships across the global fleet, gaining hands-on experience at sea early in their careers. With the Shefarer Program launched this year, Hapag-Lloyd is further developing maritime training. The program aims to attract more women to careers at sea and support them throughout their professional journey. At the same time, the company is investing in modern working conditions on board and increasing the visibility of female role models - including through the targeted deployment of crews with a higher share of women. Chief Engineer Carsten Bublitz (41) on board the Manila Express also started his career at sea through an apprenticeship: "The technical systems on board are essential for ship operations. During the apprenticeship, you learn to understand these complex and fascinating systems and how everything must work together to ensure smooth operations. As a crew, we are always pleased to welcome new apprentices on board and pass on our knowledge and experience." Onshore, 30 apprentices are starting their careers at Ballindamm. Fourteen are training as shipping agents, two as office management assistants, and 14 are enrolled in dual study programs at the HSBA and Nordakademie. Maika Alpheus (32), now Senior Director for Data Excellence, also began her career as an apprentice: "An apprenticeship at Hapag-Lloyd is not a fixed path, but the foundation for a career. The variety of career paths is a real advantage - for individuals and for Hapag-Lloyd as a whole." Arne Zass (38), now Director Digital Business Growth, shares a similar experience: "I started my career with an apprenticeship at Hapag-Lloyd in 2008. From early on, I was able to take on responsibility and shape my own path. For me, it shows that those who are curious and take initiative can develop here - and truly make an impact." This approach pays off: most apprentices are offered permanent positions after completing their programs. For Hapag-Lloyd, this is key, as the future of the fleet and the company is therefore also built on its own young talent. Global Feeder Shipping launches egypt-northern Italy container service; Hapag-Lloyd joins as slot partner. July 28, 2026 UAE-based Global Feeder Shipping (GFS) has launched a new container service linking key Egyptian ports with northern Italy, further strengthening maritime connectivity between the Eastern Mediterranean and the Adriatic region. According to shipping intelligence provider DynaLiners, the new Adriatic East-Med (AES) service will operate on the rotation: Port Said - Damietta - Koper - Venice - Port Said The service will be deployed with vessels of approximately 1,800 TEU capacity, providing regular feeder connectivity for cargo moving between Egypt and the northern Adriatic markets. The new service is expected to improve transit options for exporters and importers by offering enhanced connectivity and additional feeder solutions for regional trade, supporting growing cargo volumes between the Eastern Mediterranean and Europe. DynaLiners also reported that Hapag-Lloyd has secured slot allocations on the AES service, which the German shipping line will market under the name ADX. The carrier has already started promoting the service alongside its recently introduced Intra Adriatic Service (IAS), connecting Venice, Ancona and Rijeka. The launch reflects the continued focus of container shipping lines on expanding regional feeder networks, improving service flexibility, and strengthening cargo flows between Mediterranean and Adriatic markets amid evolving trade patterns.
Global Feeder Shipping rolls out new adriatic-east mediterranean feeder route. 2026/07/19 Per shipping intelligence firm DynaLiners, Global Feeder Shipping (GFS) has launched a brand-new Adriatic East-Med Service, abbreviated as AES, which creates a direct container shipping link between Egyptian terminals and two core ports along the Northern Adriatic: Koper and Venice. This newly launched loop will deploy two container vessels with a nominal capacity of roughly 1,800 TEU, operating on a fixed port rotation sequence: Port Said | Damietta | Koper | Venice | Port Said. As a key cooperation arrangement tied to the AES route launch, Hapag-Lloyd has secured dedicated slot space on this service and will market the capacity under its proprietary ADX service brand. This new joint setup fully replaces the carrier's former ADX offering, which previously sourced container slots from DP World Shipping Solutions' independent Egypt-Adriatic shipping line. Beyond the AES partnership, Hapag-Lloyd has also unveiled a brand-new Intra-Adriatic Service (IAS). The intra-regional feeder line connects Venice, Ancona and Rijeka, serving to further consolidate and strengthen the carrier's comprehensive shortsea feeder network spanning the entire Adriatic maritime zone.

(Image credit: NexusWave) Inmarsat Maritime, a Viasat company, has secured an agreement with Hapag-Lloyd to deploy NexusWave across its global fleet, following successful onboard trials of the fully managed bonded connectivity service. A long-standing Inmarsat customer for almost 25 years, Hapag-Lloyd began evaluating NexusWave in 2024 as part of its broader digitalization roadmap and Strategy 2030 ambitions. The company sought a future-proof connectivity platform capable of supporting increasingly data-driven operations, enhanced crew welfare and seamless integration of business-critical applications across its fleet. During the trial phase, direct crew feedback highlighted the service's ability to deliver a consistent "home-like" internet experience with consistent global availability. Beyond crew connectivity, the evaluation focused on operational continuity, application performance, cybersecurity resilience and the ability to support Hapag-Lloyd's evolving digital ecosystem at sea. NexusWave will provide Hapag-Lloyd with high-speed, fully managed, secure-by-design connectivity that intelligently bonds Ka-band, LEO, LTE and L-band networks and offers unlimited data, supporting real-time collaboration, remote IT management, data-intensive applications and enhanced vessel performance monitoring across the fleet. The agreement also includes Inmarsat's Premium Care Program, providing round-the-clock technical assistance and access to maintenance and warranty services across more than 80 ports worldwide. Hapag-Lloyd expands eBL adoption through Galileo platform. June 15, 2026 Hapag-Lloyd has partnered with WiseTech Global to publish Electronic Bills of Lading (eBLs) through Galileo, supporting its goal of achieving 100% eBL adoption by 2030. The first Hapag-Lloyd eBL published through Galileo was issued for GEODIS, a CargoWise customer. The transaction demonstrated the transfer of a verified electronic document from the carrier to the freight forwarder during a live shipment. Through Galileo, Hapag-Lloyd customers can receive eBLs via CargoWise, INTTRA or directly through the Galileo platform. The integration uses Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA) API v3.0 standards. Hapag-Lloyd said the move will help deliver faster, safer and more cost-effective document exchange across the supply chain. Galileo connects carriers, freight forwarders, cargo owners and banks on a single platform. The system enables verified shipping documents to move alongside cargo, supporting both cargo release and trade finance processes. By connecting with Galileo, Hapag-Lloyd gains access to a broad digital network that includes approximately 22,000 logistics providers and industry participants, representing around 90% of global ocean container capacity.
