Requirements

  • 12+ years of relevant experience as a founding, principal, or staff engineer.
  • Experience building and operating a complex microservices platform in production, including explaining failures and the corrective actions taken.
  • Extensive distributed-systems experience, including concurrency, event-driven architectures, message buses, and their failure modes.
  • Experience taking over a complex codebase and measurably improving it.
  • Ability to contribute code that ships to production every week.
  • Experience using coding agents and agentic artificial intelligence in everyday work.
  • Back-end engineering expertise and a product mindset, including understanding that a platform is a product.
  • Ability to assess distributed-systems tradeoffs and optimize for speed or correctness as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Develop microservices using Go and run them in AWS.
  • Direct, lead, and contribute to building and operating the platform.
  • Assess the existing platform code and architecture and form evidence-based judgments about strengths, weaknesses, and improvements.
  • Define the technical roadmap with measurable goals and sequence work to deliver incremental value.
  • Personally write critical-path code, including refactors, performance improvements, and stability fixes.
  • Build trust with the established team by listening, explaining reasoning, and demonstrating through code.
  • Guide teams through execution by setting direction, defining standards, and unblocking difficult problems.
  • Lead design reviews and code reviews.
  • Establish development practices for testing, interfaces, service boundaries, and release discipline.
  • Drive observability through metrics, structured logs, and tracing, and use it to identify root causes.
  • Document architecture decisions and their reasoning.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience leading a simplification or stabilization effort on an existing SaaS platform.
  • Experience building or operating CI/CD systems, workflow engines, or developer platforms.
  • Open-source contributions in the Kubernetes, Tekton, NATS, Jenkins, or broader DevOps ecosystem.
  • Background in identity and access management, multi-tenancy, or regulated environments.
  • Experience with LLM-powered features or MCP tooling in production backends.

About the Company

CloudBees

Enterprise CI/CD platform with Jenkins plugins

CloudBees provides enterprise CI/CD software to automate and accelerate software delivery for large organizations. It runs on-premises or in the cloud, centered on Jenkins with plugins and build-acceleration features that manage build, test, and deployment steps across environments and scale resources with dynamic provisioning. It differentiates itself by focusing on enterprise-grade needs—security, compliance, vulnerability management, and dedicated support—rather than general DevOps tools. Its goal is to help enterprises deliver software faster, more reliably, and securely at scale.
