Requirements
  • At minimum, hold an in-training credential as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, Advanced Practice Social Worker, or equivalent license in the state of practice.
  • Hold a substance-use specialty credential such as SAC-IT, SAC, or CSAC when working in a program requiring substance-use credentialing in Wisconsin.
  • Have working knowledge of therapeutic interventions and techniques for all age groups, human growth, and behavior.
  • Complete required Residential Care Center and Community Based Residential Facility training for residential inpatient programs.
  • Obtain American Heart Association cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification within 30 days of hire and complete biannual recertification.
  • Complete Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training within 60 days of hire or transfer and complete annual recertification.
  • Attend mandatory in-services and other position-relevant in-services.
  • Fulfill educational requirements and related obligations for the program or unit license and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • For residential programs, hold a current active driver’s license in good standing.
Responsibilities
  • Lead interdisciplinary collaboration to develop, coordinate, and facilitate direct social-service interventions for assigned patients and their support systems.
  • Use empirically supported therapeutic techniques, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and family therapy, to support stabilization and recovery.
  • Conduct individual, group, and family therapy sessions.
  • Assess patients’ mental-health concerns, strengths, challenges, and treatment needs.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans and guide implementation of clinical interventions, including facilitating treatment-team meetings.
  • Provide counseling and support using evidence-based techniques during sessions and in the milieu as needed.
  • Educate patients about mental-health or substance-use conditions, self-care strategies, treatment options, and aftercare planning.
  • Document therapy sessions, patient progress, goals, and interventions within required timeframes.
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists, social workers, case managers, and internal and external professionals to coordinate care.
  • Follow ethical codes of conduct and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Report and document suspected physical or sexual abuse and neglect according to applicable law and system policy.
  • Maintain professional conduct and communicate assertively and accurately.
  • Support staffing and scheduling changes when program or patient-care needs require.
  • Participate in clinical initiatives, projects, activities, committees, task forces, and work groups supporting continuous improvement.
  • Comply with Joint Commission, state, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Provide for patient and facility safety.
  • Maintain knowledge of department processes, protocols, and procedures and pursue self-directed learning and continuing education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master’s degree in Social Work or a related field from an accredited school of Social Work, Professional Counseling, or Family Therapy.
  • Experience in healthcare and psychiatric settings.
  • Residential Care Center and Community Based Residential Facility training for non-residential levels of care.
  • A current active driver’s license in good standing for non-residential levels of care.
