Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nuclear Medicine Technology.
  • Certified by the ARRT and/or NMTCB, and must pass the registry within one year of hire.
  • Mandatory clinical competency and didactic training under the supervision of an accredited school of Nuclear Medicine Technology.
  • Current CPR certification is required.
  • Knowledge of patient condition, history, and background information pertinent to the proposed examination.
  • Competency in assessing patients and in knowledge of the range of treatment, growth and development, and communication appropriate to the age of patients treated.
  • Ability to perform the listed physical demands, including walking up to seven hours per day, lifting up to 50 pounds frequently and 75 pounds occasionally, pushing objects weighing up to 100 pounds, and pulling objects weighing up to 350 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine studies in accordance with departmental procedures, established protocols, and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Order, measure, and administer radiopharmaceuticals; schedule house patient studies and order radionuclides.
  • Educate patients about nuclear medicine procedures.
  • Perform quality control on all equipment.
  • Perform venipuncture with radioactive liquids.
  • Give direction and assist with cleanup of accidents or spills involving radioactive materials.
  • Maintain the hot lab and waste-disposal areas in accordance with regulations.
  • Demonstrate competency in the RIS modules appropriate to job responsibilities.
  • Receive radionuclides.
  • Maintain professional development through participation in in-service and continuing education programs.
  • Ensure the quality of digital images sent to PACS; verify the correct patient is selected from the worklist and the accuracy of medical-record information before sending images.
  • Maintain competence in use of the Patient Tracking System.
  • Support the department's Press Ganey goal of 90% by providing patient education and a personalized business card to each patient, providing apology cards when expectations are not met, and submitting a list of those patients to the manager at evaluation time.
  • Maintain confidentiality of materials handled within the network/entity and ensure proper release of information.
  • Comply with network and departmental employee, patient, and environmental safety policies and reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrate the network's Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrate performance improvement in clinical care/outcomes, customer/service improvement, operational systems/processes, and safety, as appropriate.
  • Use resources effectively and efficiently in daily procedures, processes, and practices.
  • Comply with network and departmental attendance and dress-code policies.
