About the Job

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in a technical field and at least 10 years of advanced controls system experience, or a master's degree and at least 7 years of advanced controls system experience.
  • Proficient knowledge of controls engineering foundations, including feedback control, linear and nonlinear control, multivariable control, system identification, constrained optimization, and predictive control.
  • Experience with industrial control applications.
  • Experience with vapor-compression cycles, including heat exchangers and turbomachinery compression technologies.
  • Experience driving controls platforming initiatives, common architectures, and technology roadmap development.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB-based toolsets, including Simulink, to design, implement, and test embedded controls algorithms.
  • Experience in requirements management and system integration, specifically test strategies across model-in-the-loop (MIL), software-in-the-loop (SIL), and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) domains.
  • Knowledge of acausal modeling languages, such as Modelica.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and adoption of common controls platforms to accelerate product development, improve technology reuse, and ensure consistent product quality across multiple product lines.
  • Lead the development and delivery of robust, production-ready control solutions by ensuring compliance with customer and technical requirements, industry standards, and best practices.
  • Drive project execution by setting clear technical goals, managing timelines, and coordinating teams; mitigate risks, align stakeholders, and ensure on-time, high-quality delivery.
  • Support system-level requirement definition and drive low-level control requirement decomposition.
  • Provide technical leadership in developing advanced control algorithms, including system identification, controllability, robustness, stability, optimization, and nonlinear control methodologies.
  • Support the development and calibration of physics-based plant models and use models for design exploration, control system analysis, verification, and validation.
  • Develop and execute unit tests and integration tests for control systems.
  • Lead laboratory and field validation activities, including hands-on testing in psychrometric laboratories, and analyze results to improve plant models, control algorithms, and overall system performance.
  • Apply strategies to move testing earlier in the development lifecycle through Model-in-the-Loop (MIL), Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing.
  • Drive strategic initiatives to improve organizational quality and efficiency through technology advancement and process improvement.

Desired Qualifications

  • A PhD.
  • A degree in Electrical, Control Systems, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Residence within a commutable distance of the East Syracuse, New York facility.
  • Excellent communication skills and a proven track record of delivering results through effective teamwork.
