Responsibilities
  • Assess patients' physical and psychosocial status through interviews, health histories, physical examinations, and diagnostic studies at Jackson Memorial Hospital as part of the Transplant Pulmonology program.
  • Assist physicians with medical procedures, including obtaining vital signs and performing nursing assessments.
  • Perform consults and daily follow-up progress notes as required.
  • Recognize deviations from normal physical assessments and collaborate with physicians to formulate treatment plans and follow-up care.
  • Write prescriptions for medication and blood products based on laboratory results, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and post-discharge care in accordance with written practice protocols.
  • Initiate and facilitate clinical research protocols and coordinate patient care with research staff.
  • Obtain complete medical histories independently of physician supervision.
  • Order appropriate laboratory tests according to practice guidelines.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate patient- and family-appropriate plans of care.
  • Participate in quality assurance programs and peer review activities.
  • Provide assistance to physicians in the care and treatment of patients.
  • Provide medical support to staff by triaging and implementing care, as documented in medical records and reflected by team feedback.
  • Administer nursing assessments, including performing examinations, giving injections, and assessing patients' health status.
  • Assess the severity of patients' conditions and direct patients to appropriate medical providers.
  • Evaluate and manage the care of lung and lung-transplant patients at the Miami Transplant Institute at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
  • Manage patients with lung and respiratory-related illnesses.
  • Take histories and perform physical examinations; order and interpret diagnostic testing.
  • Coordinate discharge planning and outpatient care for consulted patients in collaboration with the inpatient attending.
  • Provide patient education and coordinate and conduct clinical and telephone follow-up of patients.
